    Losing weight

When people maintain their "normal" weight while on chemo, it enables them to recouperate faster following treatment.  it makes it easier for your body to keep your body functions and body repair systems functioning near normal. If you try to lose weight, it can mess with these functions and that isn't good.  Personally, i looked at being told not to diet as one of the few yippee moments during treatment. I demanded an ice cream treat following each infusion.

if you just eat healthy and lose naturally without trying?
Will that make a difference? I am back on steroids and look like chipmunk. I asked him about it, he just said eat healthy or whatever you can keep down. He didn't say yes or no cause I told him I can't get my tops buttoned again, and I was back to my previous cancer normal weight!
Still wear the same puts just from the waist up!

    Take care of yourself

    Hi Pat,

Obviously, I'm no doctor so I have no ideas about diet or weight, but it seems to me you're in the middle of chemo and trying to live your life the best you can. Of course you don't want to be overweight, but maybe just take care of yourself right now and let weight loss be a problem for later.

It's good to hear from you. I've been wondering how you're doing.

    Just eat healthy,

Except for ice cream, of course.  We all know the drill about overeating and eating bad things,  but our bodies (especially when undergoing chemo) need good nutrition and calories to work efficiently.  I lost weight during chemo and in hindsight I really don't know why.  There were times when eating was a chore, but it was a chore I made myself do because I knew it was important fuel.  I did try to maintain and eat mostly what was good for me which is the food I actually prefer anyway.  After chemotherapy, you can focus on weight loss.  For now, please focus on health.  You might ask to see a nutritionist because I understand there are some foods that can really help get through the process.  Congratulations on being halfway through.

    Weight gain!

I had just lost close to 50 lbs when I was diagnosed in July 2015.  But part of my treatment was, of course, steroids!  And due to the steroids and lack of energy, 40 lbs of it came right back on! Yuck! My onco said it would come off as soon as I stopped the steroids, but it's not happening!  I have my final Herceptin treatment on Oct. 26th...Oh well, back to Weight Watchers next month!

    weight gain

In the beginning, I lost a fast 40 and was so thrilled.  Then they started the treatments which included the steroids and no more weight loss.  I try to refrain from treats and keep eating healthy with hopes that once all this treatment is over, I will lose more weight.  Please pray for me to do so.

My weight stayed the same at

My weight stayed the same at the end of treatment, but I had increased in inches. Especially around my waist. I figured that came from lack of exercise and I heard that the steroids made you lose muscle tone.  I've lost 22 pounds since, but it's from diligently watching (and writing down) everything I eat. So I include a thinner me with short-short hair as part of my new normal. Best wishes.
