Not much progress in cancer treatment and mortality from 1950 to 2004

Hello all,

This is  not about H&N cancers, but statitistics about all cancers, which shows in the period from 1950 to 2004 (the

latest I could find in this source, which unfortunately has all those copyright warnings)

Here we go:

in 1950 the number of cancer deaths in both sexes and all races in U.S. were 193.1 per 100,000 and in 2004 theye were 190.1 per 100,000.

In 1985 The goal of National Cancer institute was to to reduce cancer mortality rate by 50%, by the year 2000, but they reduced it only by 7.6%.

I cannot tell you the source, but it can be found in 2 steps:

  - Do a google search for  "cancer death  us from  1950 to 2003 john hopkins

  - The first result is a PDF file and it has these plus a lot more stats on cancer, different types, etc..

    That is great  news.  At that rate they’ll reach 50% reduction in 98.7 years and 100% in 197.4  years.  Man, I will really be an old fart.

    But

    I would note it another way for the people who are coming on-board here with a new cancer DX. Overall, less than one quarter of one percent with treatment will not make it. God doesn't pay attention to statistics anyway.
