Diarrhea. Some people think it's funny

With external radiation, what's the time frame with when diarrhea usually happens?

I guess I was the weird one.

I guess I was the weird one. I got constipation instead. I think I followed low fiber too closely.

    First week

Mine started during the first full week. Rad-Onc said that was early and that it usually takes a little longer - like the second or third. I was able to manage it with OTC Imodium-AD.

    I'm on day 8

I'm on day 8 and I have been invited to go to the opera, The Marriage of Figaro at the Kennedy Center next weekend.  That will be after day 16 of radiation.  It will involve a 3 hour drive there and back in the car. We can stay with my son overnight but is this really too ambitous to think I can really do this at this point?  I don't really want to s#$t my pants on the way in the car and definitely don't want to do it at the Kennedy Center.  Be honest!

    Immodium and Depends

i really watched what I ate. Low fiber.  It seems like it started around week two, but I was Able to control it pretty good with Imodium.  I wore Depends for a little while because i Was worried about having a problem, but I never did.  Like everything else everyone is different with how severe side effects turn out to be.  I was a lucky one and I didn't have to many problems.  I did not go on a school ski trip and got a sub because I was afraid of riding a bus for over two hours.  Hugs and prayers, Lou Ann

Its so hard to make those

Its so hard to make those kinds of desisions isnt it.  I just had to make a desision about my son this week that was really hard. Last chemo treatment i got pretty nausious  the first week.  It was hard to even get out of bed some days.  So my sons dad signed him up for hockey and wanted me to take him to the evaluation day which is this thursday (one week after chemo).  His dad wanted me to tell him if i could go but really couldnt decide.  Last sunday i was at my moms (day3 after chemo) and was not feeling so great.  Icouldnt tell what it was but just  in case i walked to the toilet.  As soon as i got there i threw up.  Good thing yesterday and today i havent thrown up.  Im taking my mom with me but the plan is to take my son.  I told his dad that im leaning to taking him but its not for sure.  I hope i make it too.  It would be awful if i threw up.

OMG, Cheesy, I go through the

OMG, Cheesy, I go through the same thing all the time.  I never had radiation but the chemo did a number on my digestive system.  Before chemo I could control it by being very careful about what I ate and when I ate but after, there is no pattern.  I just never know when it will strike.

I feel for you, kiddo!!!  I hope you can go - it's a victory for all of us "sufferers."  And, I definitely do NOT think diarrhea is funny.

    Love,

    Eldri
