I called his oncologist yesterday and he advised to stop the Votrient until our next appt on 09/22. Now hubbie is worried this will set him back, I told him from things I've read on line this is not out of the normal when someone is having severe side effects. So now he is hoping his stomach settles down and in a few days he can enjoy a very small steak and baked potato before he goes back on chemo.

    He'll be fine

He just needs to get the old drug out of his system before he starts a new one. My Oncologist called it a drug holiday.

    Try this way...

I take 2 multi-symptom Immodium tablets with a full glass of water 2 hours BEFORE I take the Votrient (also with a full glass of water).  I take all of the Votrient tablets at once--once a day, just before bed.  Works perfectly for me and no more "running" to the restroom.

I am going to try this....

I am taking Votrient and have intestinal issues.  Wonder if this will work...

As it was explained to me. I was fine for the first 6-8 weeks and it became gradually worse. After 6 mose I made sure I was never far from a bathroom facility.

I got about 7-8 mos before progession. One of my doctors hypoyhosized that the loss of absobtion due to the chornic inflamation of the digestive tract caused by the drug itself could lead to its failure, rather than the actual effect on the cancer cells. The more offten my diarrhea became the less effective votirient was.

Nothing curtailed the runs, I lost appetite and weight. Imodium (Perscription), fiber pills for bulk, etc etc did nothing stopped the flow.

I was on 800mg the whole run (Pun semi intended).  My blookwork stayed good, my BP was excellent and got better better, I had nose bleeds early on too. The signs it became less effective was probably a tapering of side effects other than diarreah. Watch the scans, I had one with stability and 8 weeks later there was progression. Be thinking of your next choice of drug. I am starting on 3rd and probably my final line

Another doctor I consulted doubted this so its a theory (Makes sense to me).

    So are you saying

that if I have a lot of diarrehea that the Votrient is not working because it can't be absorbed?  Most of my diarrehea takes place in the evening.  I take my meds at bedtime....so it does not usually get bad until 15- 17 hours after I take meds.   Now, I am wondering... I pray that these meds are working.

    It's working IMHO

Hi Laura. I think the fact that I have diarrehea when I take Votient--and that it stops if I miss a dose--is a sign that it is being absorbed and is working.  I take it early in the AM and the first round of diarrehea hits around lunch time, and the last "run" hits around midnight.
