Had Lumpectomy, now Called need to take a Lymph Node
Hi everyone
i had a Lumpectomy on 8/17/16 and really not too many issues some tenderness but for the most part wasn't too bad. However today the surgeon called and told me that the pathology report came back the DCIS was more than they thought and now I have to have surgery to remove the Lymph Node(s). I may also need Chemo, Radiation Therapy, which I already was told I needed.
What can I expect during the Lymph Node removal and should I be worried?
Thank you

My recovery from Lumpectomy and SNB (had 2 nodes removed) were both very easy. I hope you have the same experience!!

Lumpectomy and Lymph Node Study
My Duke Cancer Center surgeon indicated similar information to me after my lumpectomy on June 21, 2016. I had 8 sentinel nodes removed on July 5th....thank God they were all clear. I pray the same for your situation. Recovery is similar to the lumbectomy. After the nodes were removed, my surgeon and radiologist were able to stage my breast cancer and send me to an oncologist who could better determine my treatment plan. I am Stage 1A HER2+ thus will receive a treatment plan that consists of 12 weeks of Taxol chemotherapy + Herceptin, then Herceptin alone every three weeks for 1 year. I will also receive Radiation....haven't met with the Radiologist yet but will do so in the near future. My most painful part of this process so far was having the port inserted.....ouchee! I had my second taxol/herceptin treatment today....so far so good. Still have my hair but hear it's just a matter of time.....that will devastate me.
I've posted on another discussion board entitled, "Stage IA June 2016 Diagnosis" if you want to read the posts there as well. I've received a lot of good advice from survivors.

I had my nodes and lumpectomy
I had my nodes and lumpectomy the same time, so I am not really sure what you'd be dealing with-My node recovery was simple -I do notice even though it was in 2008 I still have tightness in my arm stretching (more like if sleeping or reaching) nothing servere. Drs must really LOOK to see any scaring under my arm.

Thank you all for you reply
My Dr's are still waitng on the Hormon and HER2 test results and this Friday have the Lymph Node(s) removed. They didn't take the Lymph Node during the Lumpectpmy because my cancer was Non-investive DCIS, but the Patholgy report came back Investive Cancer. Now it becomes a waitng game and I hate was to see if I need chemo.
God Bless you all.
