Rang that Bell 8/16
I rang that bell 2 days ago! While waiting to go in an Aunt and her niece walked in (the Aunt rang the bell last week). They came back just to see me ring the bell!! I was so touched! My husband and our middle daughter were there when I went into treatment and when I walked out our oldest daughter was there as well!! She was able to get off work early and wanted to surprise me! Our son tried to, but couldn't. I saw the Doctor after (my Dr was at the downtown office, so I saw his partner. When my dr was away last month I saw her as well). She was pleased with everything, told me the next two weeks would be rough, but then I would turn a corner and start healing. I also met with the dietician as my weight dropped to 102 lbs. She gave me some samples of this protein stuff I can mix with a little water and put down my tub, which also adds calories. So now, after 35 rads and 3 cycles chemo, I am finished with treatment!! Let the healing begin!!!

and what a relief it is! Never having to get up, get dress....to go THERE again... Last day of rads was my fave day of treatment.

Thank you!
Thanks for your support. I think this past week has been harder than the 7 weeks of treatment!! I ended up dehydrated on Friday and had to get iv fluids. The mucous has been bad. It was making me nauseous, had trouble swallowing. I was able to swallow through the whole treatment and now have to use the peg tube! I am still swallowing water though. So, I'm just going to relax...use the tube...and hope next week is better!

Aww, hang in there Joanne
You will turn the corner soon. reach into that bag of tricks to help with the mucus - L-Glutamine, humidifier, Mucinex, hydration. No worries about the PEG, just keep trying to swallow water if you can. That is what the PEG is there for...nutrition if you can't get enough by mouth. You are doing a yeoman's job...and it WILL get better soon.

I've been thinking about you, Joanne. This past week has been rough for me, too. I had a lot of vomiting in the beginning, then that seemed to get under control, and then today I've been vomiting up mucus all morning. About to take the ferry into the city to get IV hydration. I've tried to eat a few things by mouth because I'm eager to get off the PEG, but everything burns my tongue. I can swallow water ok, though.
Hopefully we get our second wind soon!

Seems we are experiencing the same things! haven't tried to eat anything yet. The tube feedings are going well and I'm able to drink water! I figured I would wait until this mucus calms down before I attempted any solid food!!

I need to look to you as an example of patience. I guess I'm afraid of never getting off the PEG, so I pushed it this week.
I got a prescription for the fentanyl patch since I'm having so much breakthrough pain with just the Oxy. Crossing my fingers!
