WHAT IS THE POST OP LIKE?
What can I expect post op? I have Thyroidectomy in 2 weeks & have no clue what to expect. I was in a bit of shock when I went to see surgeon & Had no idea what kinds of questions to ask. Any insight would be appreciated.Thank you,Kathy

Hello..although I am new to
Hello..although I am new to this site, I have had 3 surgeries for removal of thyroid..the first was a failure..the second surgery lasted 4 hrs and my left and isthmus were removed..i just had a complete( my right side was taken out) this past monday..post op experience so far includes soarness, voice hoarseness. Drs prescribe you pain meds but today was my girst day actually out of the house..sleep slanted or somehow sitting up..it helps..wear loose or tank shirts so no rubbing..drink plenty of water and dont overeat..take baby steps..

I stayed in the hospital
I stayed in the hospital overnight both times I had this done. What I remember was I was too scared to look in the mirror, I slept sitting up for a few days once I got home. In the hospital bed it is easier as you can adjust it. So get some pillows it will help.
After I had the surgery, they said I could not drive for a few weeks, they didn't want me turning my head, so prepare for that.
They put this paper tape on the incision, it came off on it's own after about a week.

Post Op
Post op is hell for a few days but the drugs will take care of that. When your bandage comes off your scar will look horrible. DO NOT FREAK OUT. It will get better every day. After one year no one could see mine. Take it easy, you will heal.

did you use anything on the incision to promote healing and or less scarring ? Having hemi-thyroidectomy in 2 weeks and then have 8 months till daughters wedding, don't want to look like frankenmom
