Blood tinged mucus?

End of my sixth week of rads and my throat is definitely more raw. This morning, after a painful coughing session, I  hacked up mucus that had a small amount of blood in it. Is this normal?

    my opinion, normal

    Kari,

Raw throat and cough session may equal a small amount of blood.

If it bleeds or is persistent then contact your team.

    Most likely very normal.

How are you doing.  You are getting close.  Hang in there.

Thank, Matt. I'm hanging in there. Finally started taking the Oxy which helps a bit. I'm just really tired a lot of the time these days. Just mainly focused on calories and hydration. So ready for this to be done!

    Yes, it is normal.

I had a ton of mucous during my treatments (3 weeks post treatment as of today). The last week as well as the first week post treatment had a lot of bloody mucous involved (even without extreme coughing). You are doing the right things by staying hydrated as the dryer you are, the more raw and bloody it can become.  Hang in there, it will be over soon.  Wish I could tell you the mucous goes away quickly, but it does not.  The bloody tinge will stop, but you will deal with the mucous for a few weeks to come.

Sounds like you are close now so stay strong!!

    Yes it is.

I had my larynx removed so I get to see what is happening up close. Mucus can stick to the side of your trachea and when you cough it will break free and a very small trace of blood will show up in it. The bleeding stops very quick as well, mine stops in less than a minute but I can break another one loose and see it again. Once you stop that coughing spell the bleeding will stop until the next time. This is scary, but normal.
