CQ, I am so very sorry toCheeseQueen57 said:Frontal stroke
it appears I had a frontal stroke effecting only speech. Apologize for mistakes. I'm confident speech fully back with speech therapy. Chemo next week but need to press oncologist if chemo contributed. New box of junk to deal with. Good grief. Remaining optimistic.
CQ, I am so very sorry to hear about this turn of events. You've been doing so great! Hopefully it has nothing to do with the treatments so that they can continue. Sounds like you have a good plan in place with the speech therapy. I pray that the doctors can figure out why this happened so that it never happens to you again. Wishing you strength and healing, Kim

Bingo- Stroke caused by a-fib
My cardiologist pinned the stroke on a-fIB. I'll begin protocol for that. Could have been a lot worse. Now cardiologist needs to coordinate with oncologist. Hope it goes smooth. Could have been a lot worse. Thanks for your support. I'm still in ICU but getting better.

Hang in there CQ!!! We're all pulling for you. Have you had A-fib before??? Hopefully you can continue your chemo but I've read reports regarding heart problems and chemo. Heck, there probably is an obscure report out there showing the connection between ingrown toenails and chemo!!
Rest, my friend!!

OHHH NO!
I am sooo sorry to hear this but as usual, you are showing grace and helping us understand yet another Mountain we may all climb.. Actually, I am right behind you, turn around a you will see my freckled head shining and me waving. I just got home from emergency. Started out as possible blood clot... by the time I left I had A-Fib, enlarged heart AND a hole in my heart. Scared the stuffin out of me, tried to hide but they kept finding the 6' bald woman. don't know how. But looks doable so now coordinating meeting with Onc/Cardi. So when I read your post I just had this conversation, literally a few hours ago, with the Emergency Room Cardiologist. I am on blood thinners, asprin as AFIB causes blood clots that make the stroke.
Luckily, no stroke... I will say mega prayers for you and keep me (us) posted. I will share info I get with you as well.
Again, God Bless you, Strong Lady.

I'm glad they caught it before strokeCritical
I'm lucky just have mild speech impairment from my stroke. But have to wait 9 days for anticoagulant therapy because apparently research says after stroke if you start anticoagulant immediately risk of hemhorragic stroke day 3 and 9 post stroke. Critical 9 day period I have to get through.

Scary Stuff!
I've heard misery loves company, but aren't you two carrying this too far?
May I ask which chemo drugs you or your doctors think is causing this or is it just that future chemo's now an issue because of what's happened to you?
CQ are they keeping you in hospital for the 9 days? That would be a long stretch when I'm sure you'd rather be home. We're all pulling for you and Patty here and will be on pins and needles right with you through this.

I am Fine
Guys, I didn't have a stroke and I am fit and happy. I have a hole in my heart but from what I am reading and hoping it can be glued up right nicely. The Afib. (remember that show Emergency, remember those guys always had patients with Afib and gave them ringers lactate!) well not sure, weight loss and blood thinners and enlarged heart may be from Afib so that may lessen. I made it sound like I was on deaths door and I am not and don't plan on being there anytime soon, PC doc (who is also the President of the Medical University) thinks I should fare well and he is monitoring this.
There is an interesting twist. I am going to check w/ dr. manana. 1st Chemo was Taxol and Carboplatnim.. I had what was classified as one of the most severe sensitivity reaction taxol. My back still hurts to this day and it was horrid. Next chemo they loaded me up on steroids slowed the drip to twice the time and bingo in a few minutes the sensitivity but not quite as severe. Now I wonder, did this blow out my heart? My 3rd and next 3 chemos will be taxotere and carboplatin. I will let you guys know what the heart and chemo dr thinks caused the problem and if it is related to our chemo. Should be interesting ; It is probably because I am overweight and was formerly a smoker.
The next 9 days I will follow Cheese and pray she stays well on strong.
Love to all and special prayers for Cheese
Patty

I apologize that I took over post.. this is for Cheese. If I get any more news I will start a new post and leave this thread for Cheese as it was started. I am sorry, Cheese, just thought we had same malady or close to it was so strange, I was blown away.

There is a lot of information
There is a lot of information on the web about the connection between chemo and heart problems. As I've said before, 50 years from now medical science will look back and say "OMG, what did we do to these poor women!!" That's why they don't make Coca Cola with cocaine anymore!
(((Susan))) and (((Patty))) That's me giving you both firm but gentle hugs.
Love,
Eldri

Out of ICU
I'm out of ICU in a step-down unit. My cardiologist says a-fib and stroke had nothing to do with chemo. Just something that happens. I could have been walking around with it for a couple years. Thank God this didn't happen while I was in Italy between my surgery and chemo. I anticipate going home tomorrow. I have an appointment with my oncologist on Wednesday. Hopefully they can coordinate the care and I can start back on my chemo the following week. I have that battle to fight!
Thanks all of you for your support and encouragement.

I'm home!
I came home yesterday and it was sure good to hit that shower. They arranged for home health for my speech therapy so that will help. Apparently I will start on anticoagulants July 26. I have appointment with my oncologist Wednesday so I'm sure I'll get the skinny for when I'll resume chemo. Meanwhile I'm on a boat load of drugs and I've gained 10 pounds in 5 days!

Glad you are home CQ. I hope
Glad you are home CQ. I hope you are feeling much better too. Wow, 10 pounds! That's a lot in a very short time. Too bad it doesn't come off as fast as we can pack it on. Take care of yourself.
