Brachytherapy As We Speak

in Uterine/Endometrial Cancer #1

Well. it is a little after 1 a...  I am 17 hours from freedom...  What a trip so far.  Can't sleep.I am trying to type this with one finger w/ oxygen monitor and other hand with the needle....  (they didn't want to use my port...) so typing is a struggle.  All is well other than stir crazy.  Some nurses are terrified to come in here and is like, "open your mouth and I will toss in your meds from the door." 

Radiology Doc said when they were inserting the tubes they found a small flap, taggant of skin... she characterized as like a little tongue, healthy looking and pink at the anterior of my vagina.  She referred it to my oncologist but felt it was too healthy looking to be the bad stuff.

Husband was alreay home so I called him and gave him my rendition..  Husband, "You have a tongue WHERE??"  

Just another scare I hope.   Will let you know.

    i intended to be available to give you support as you went through this, Patty, but I'm traveling today so won't have Internet access again  till this evening when you are almost done.  Here's my advice:  don't cough, sneeze or laugh too hard.  I guess if it stayed put when your husband asked his question,  it's secure.

    Why the IV?  I didn't have one.

    Almost Crossing the Finish Line

    Hi Patty, glad to hear that you'll be finished with the brachytherapy and on your way home in time for dinner tonight.  I remember most of the nurses almost throwing the paper trays at me when I had my brachytherapy.  Thankfully, I'm a pretty good catch so I got to work on my eye-hand coordination a bit.  There was one older nurse who came in to talk and when I mentioned the time limit for her staying in the room, she said she knew all about it, but didn't really care.  

    Hope the rest of today flies by for you and that your second "tongue" turns out to be nothing of concern.

    Patty, I'm glad you are almost free! I can't imagine laying still that long. Like the other ladies said... hope all is well down there!

    Hang in there Peppermint Patty!!!  Don't they put up a half lead wall that people can sit behind and visit with you?  When our daughter had radiation for thyroid cancer, I could sit behind the "lead line" as they called it and visit with her for 20 minutes or so a day.  I sure hope this does the trick and the little tongue just turns out to be nothing!!

    This is an example of Connie's and the whole groups kindness and concern..  Worried she couldn't be more available... that is so incredible..  thank you sooo much.  4 and a half hours left.  

    IV..  not hooked to anything... using it like a port for shots....   and just in  case.  I don't think it dawned on them they could use my port...  All is well and again.. huge thanks

    Are the hands on the clock still moving?  I swear the one in my room froze up.  Sounds like you are handling this well.  Be careful when you get up.  Sit on the side of the bed a couple minutes before you start running around.  I thought I was ok, went out in the hall and had to find a seat quick.  I hadn't eaten much (low residue diets are awful) and my normal BP is low so I'm sure it dropped after being flat that long.  The combination almost laid me out.  Enjoy your shower when you get home.

    I Am Home

    Yay, I am home and none the less for the wear.  Like each of you said, the laying still was a killer.  I took my Kindle with audible books and downloaded the Charmed Ones.  I was occuppied.  I won't say it was pleasant, diarrhea pretty much wiped me out but I got through it.  Most nurses were angels and I am so appreciative of their ability to care for you and also how the care about you.  Shower was so awesome when I arrived home..   Like you, Connie, I have very low blood pressure and the lack of food I am terribly sleepy...  walking upstairs is a big adventure today but this should pass soon.

    Yep, Eldri, had the lead wall and hubby and daughter could visit behind lead wall for total of 30.  

    Thank each of you for your support.  You are truly the greatest.  Now, I only have 3 more chemos and hopefully I will be meeting some dude named NED..   :)

    Yeah! You made it. So glad

    Yeah! You made it. So glad that is over for you.

    Take it easy for the next few days. Build your strength up so that you can fly through chemo. Well as much as anyone can fly through it!

    Glad That One's Over

    Glad your brachytherapy is over and that the experience wasn't too terrible.  I was trying to remember if I had diarrhea, but don't recall any.  I know I had plenty with the external radiation though.  I think it had pretty much subsided by the time I went in for the brachytherapy.  I do remember that lead wall though, which was so far away from my bed that I needed a megaphone to talk to anyone behind it!  It was so frustrating to me that I told people not to bother and just call instead.  Be well, Patty, and thanks for letting me know that LDR has not completely gone by the wayside.
