Gabapetin

My Doctor wants me to take gabapetin starting next weekend.  I am just curious if anyone has taken this, does it help, and any thoughts about it.  Thanks!

Joanne

    Going on 3.5 years

I was given Gabapentin at the beginning of treatment. Worked my way up to 900mg 3x a day. I was so messed up with all the opiates and such that I couldn't really tell you if it worked BUT... Since treatment, I've been using it for neuropathy issues. I take 300mg 3x a day and have for over 3 years. It really helps with the nerve pain.

    Positive thoughts and prayers

    Gabapetin

I used it for a while but never did any good to me, what I did find that worked is a med call Lyrics it is on the same scale as Gabapetin.

    Hope this helps

    My husband took Gabapentin

for a period of time. He also took other meds so it was difficult to determine which drug helped and which did not, but I DO know he had to wean off it very slowly. Weaning off produced side effects like anxiety, irritability and some nausea, but he was able to eliminate it.

    I'm neutral on Gaba-gaba-doo...

That was what my nephs called it, still makes me laugh.  I think it's pretty much pro-forma to begin rads patients on it beginning the third week of treatment.  I don't think it did much, if anything, for me.  I went off it right after rads concluded and pain level was the same.  The only thing that really helped was Liquid Oxy.  Of course, everyone is individal...just as everyone's cancer is individual, so hopefully Gaba-gaba-doo with be a winner for you, Joanne.

    I love that name!

That name is perfect!  And it makes me laugh which is a good thing.  I guess I'll go on it. I am more the type I like to take something when I need it, but then I've never had anything like this.   My doctor said the liquid oxy is available when I need it.  Thanks for your help!
