Unpredictable... (Sung to the tune of "Unforgettable"...)

I got my surgery date. Or not.  It will be September 6. Or sooner.  The surgeon says about 30% of his patients have to change their initial date for surgery because their EKG indicates a referral to a cardiologist is in order first. So their spots become available.  Once I get my EKG (which he fully expects me to pass), then any time within a week or two I could be scheduled for surgery, since I'm willing to be flexible. 

My hospital stay will be for just one overnight (80% of his patients do go home after one night).  Or not. 

My diagnosis has been that I had a solid tumor, most likely malignant. Or not.  The surgeon looked at the CT and said, "It looks cyctic." So that could make a difference.  Or not. 

So, I'm heading off Tuesday to get my EKG OK'd and scheduled.  Then I'm going to set things up to be ready to go have surgery on a one or two week notice, sometime in the next two months.  I'll get home when I get home.  The surgeon can mess with what's in between.

Oh, I was going to write a take-off on "Unforgettable," but I only got as far as "Unpredictable, that's what life is, unpredictable..." Then I got distracted by listening to Nat King Cole on YouTube.

    ....but only if you'd like your ears to bleed, and I think you have enough problems!  haha 

    LOVE Nat King Cole, and you are correct, life is quite unpredictable.....or not.  One thing that is predictable?....you'll probably sail through this like it was just a bad dream.  That's my wish for you anyway.

    Of course, maybe you could hum? I have a drum.  Then it could become a hum-drum event.  Or not Laughing .

    Sailing through...

    Hopefully, I'll sail through it like it's a weird dream (The kind I have after I eat Italian food... I think it's the tomato paste that gets me), rather than a bad dream.  But for sure, don't want to be sailing like it's night terrors Yell . 

    Rather than singing, perhaps you could join in with the hummers (see above). 

    I'll keep folks posted here, for sure.

    The Joy of Scheduling...

    Connected with the scheduler to get the EKG appointment, explained the surgeon wanted me to have it this week.  I was told the first one available was in mid-August. Okaaaay...? Chatted for a bit more, got one scheduled for mid-July. Okaaay...? Sent a message to my physician. We'll see if they can sqeeze me in, if they put me in where there's a cancellation, or if they just figure I probably need the time to shampoo the carpets or something.

    Good Lord!

    Not sure where you're going but that is insane!!  Mid-august or mid-july?  that's laughable.  It literally takes 5 minutes, MAX, to do an EKG.  I've done maybe a million of them.  Maybe your doc should order it STAT...lol    If it takes that long to fullfill an EKG order, I wonder how long it'll take for a blood draw and chest x-ray....typically they want those prior to surgery as well.

    Donna, I couldn't figure out what could possibly take that long, having seen scores of EKGs done. The schedule said, "Oh, the EKG isn't the difficult part. It's the clearance that takes time." Riiiight. 

    My medical group has an email system and my primary had asked that I bring him up to speed on my appointment with the surgeon. I told him the whole thing. "You need the surgery soon, not in September," and said he'd call the surgeon. I emailed him back and explained it wasn't surgeon holding things up, but my EKG in the middle of July. I got a reply within minutes. I have an EKG scheduled for tomorrow.

    Fortunately...

    Fortunately my blood draw and my x-ray will be done at a nearby lab and an almost-as close radiology center. Either place I can make an appointment or just drop in (best to show up with a good book, but it'll happen the same day). So that's quite easy.

    Thank God your primary is on board with you.   We don't live in the dark ages anymore.  Jeez!

    The damned EKG machine does an interpretation, on the spot and prints the whole thing out.  Yes, they always want it reviewed by a cardiologist, but that's ridiculous!

    Just another example of how medicine can be so frustrating.  Shouldn't have to be a battle.....in my opinion.

    Checklist

    Pre-Surgery Stuff to Do:

    • My EKG is done and OK'd. 
    • Got the chest x-ray. 
    • Will get the bloodwork as soon as I hear from the surgeon. 
    • My primary suggested I stop the supplements, diet stuff, etc that I need to stop a week before the surgery NOW so I'm good to go when I get the call (and to let him know that).

    We're moving right along Laughing -- !
