BRCA 1 & 2 positive
I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer in early April (tumor 5mm) I was told the biopsy read, ER/PR positive, equivocal for HER2.
Also, was told to do genetic testing because of my familial history. Turns out I was positive for both gene mutations. Luckily I had a complete hysterectomy 7 years ago. So I don't have to worry about that. But since the breast cancer diagnosis, I did decide to have a bilateral mastectomy, along with reconstructive surgery immediately after. So far, this has been the most difficult part. Recovering after surgery.
I had that surgery on May 24th, and had to go back into surgery for infection and necrosis June 14th. Between tiring to heal, and taking all of the antibiotics, it has been difficult. My oncologist wants to be aggressive, and Iof course agree. I was supposed to start chemo a couple of weeks ago. However, since my body is taking its time healing, I think this is a blessing in disguise. I started reading online that there is a class action lawsuit against the makers of Taxotare, due to permanent hair loss.Which in the grand scale I understand maybe shouldn't be such a huge deal. But when you take into consideration that we are already giving up my breast, that even though I will be going through skin expander a etc, still will never be like my old breasts. I dont mind going through chemo, so long as I don't loose my hair permanently.... There was little left of tumor for pathology, and it still came back ER/PR Positive and equivocal for HER2. So now, we have to figure out with my oncologist if we should proceed with treatment as if we are just treating ER,PR or treat as ER/PR, HER2 Positve as well? Scary, as I may have to have a port inserted.
I also have 3 daughters, which I was told will have to consult with a genetic counselor.
Has anyone else been found BRAC 1&2 positive? If so , what is your course of action???Comments

BRCA2 positive
i was BRCA2 positive only. No family history of breast cancer. I've had hysterectomy and both breasts removed. my tumor was ER+,PR+, and HER2+. It had already metastisized to bone (this was second bout with BC) First bout was in 1994 and I was Stage I. This time Stage IV. I'm on Femera and Herceptin right now. Did Taxotere for 4 months, but had to come off because it was making me too sick. Lost 40 lbs and had to be hospitalized twice. From what I understand, my reaction of severe diarrhea was very unusual. My hair came back in with a vengeance. Very thick.
