Foot Pain for no Reason

If I posted about this before, please tell me. You know, chemo brain and all that.

I still have some neuropathy in my feet but is is lessening. Smetimes it feels like walking on bubble wrap, other times like they're asleep, always like they have something on them like a small sock or like I walked through mud and it dried on them. What's really been bothering me for some time is a terrible pain in the top outside of my feet, particularly the right one. It's a very sharp pain that feels like it's in the bones. If I do too much such as walking a lot or being on my feet for extended periods or doing something that requires me to use my feet in different ways such as on my tiptoes or on a ladder or something, I can hardly stand the pain after. I'll have a terrible sleep for at least one night if not a few with them waking me up because I turned a bit or something. When I get up I can barely walk on them the pain is so bad. As I walk around it gets less but as soon as I sit for even a few minutes I can barely walk again.

I haven't talked to me doctor about it because it seems minor when so much else is more important but it's really bothering me and is not lessening. I also get foot cramps which I've never had in my life. My big toe will press hard against the next toe and I have to rub it out. The cramp seems to be in the instep

I have two friends with plantar fasciitis and the symptoms are similar but not the same. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any ideas? Thanks!

    Ouch

    Ouch

There's a lot to learn about the aftereffects of toxic treatments:  OUCH

Once there, it's a tough battle back. It might be worth your while to entertain the consideration of an "alternative" that may resolve the problem.

    Just sayin'......

    Best wishes for you!!!

Not all pains are related to side effects

That is one problem that I think we have. Everything we feel after treatment is attributed to being a side effect, and we rule out the fact it could actually be a stand alone problem.

I work for a Podiatrist as his MA, and I have seen problems such as yours, in the office.

I would suggest that if you can, visit a Podiatrist and get this checked out. You may need a referral, I don't konw how the system works in Canada or with your insurance. You could talk to your PCP, some are famililar with foot problems, but on the whole, a specialist would be the best route.

It would be tragic to 'live' with something because we think its just a side effect, when it can actually be addressed and problem solved.

Thanks Sue. I got up this

Thanks Sue. I got up this morning and could barely walk on it. I was up over and over last night when I'd move and it would hurt so badly it would wake me up with a jolt. Then I'd have to try different positions to get it to stop hurting as much. For some reason wrapping it with a Tensor helps, I think just because it keeps it immobilized. I was looking it up again last night and I think it's a tendon issue. I've had tendonitis in my achilles and it was terribly painful, this is similar and sounds like what it could be. No idea why it's happening but it sure gets irritated easily. I'd been hoping that more activity would help but it makes it worse.

And yes, it's true. I tend to assume everyting is related to the cancer, the treatments, the blood clot and stroke, etc. but the fact is that I had medical stuff going on before all of that and still have other things going on.

    I think I'd start with an x

I think I'd start with an x-ray just to eliminate bone stuff, then see what a podiatrist can figure out. No point in suffering if there's a fix.

    Hey,

    Hey,

I had plantar fasciitis for about a year and a half  and could barely walk.  And your pain sounds very much like what I went through.  The thing is, every step you take rips the tendons even more.   My feet would be throbing by the time I got into bed, and then they hurt all night long. As the others have mentioned, you would probably do well to see a podiatrist as soon as possible since the doc might want to put you in a boot for a few months.

     All my best, Cynthia

    From what I've read the

From what I've read the plantar fasciitis is heel pain. I don't have that. It's bad tonight. Unless I'm very careful it almost makes me drop to my knees when I take a step. It's funny. Iaccept that I have cancer and it's caused a lot of unpleasantness in my life. But things like this are what makes me really angry and depressed. It seems like the cancer and blood clot was enough, I should get a pass for other crap. We all should.

Yeah, I'm going to get it

Yeah, I'm going to get it dealt with. I seem to have pretty much healed from the rotator cuff issue I got when I was in physio over a year ago and I think I'm done with pain for no reason. I have to be careful what painkillers I take because of being on blood thinners. Enough is enough. I want to enjoy life and I'm finally well enough to do so but something like this really puts a damper on it. I feel like if the cancer metastizes or things go south for whatever reason I don't need to have my last while being in pain when I could be living life.

I have pain in the heels of

I have pain in the heels of my feet every morning  for 15 minutes when I wake up and my toes curl up SO bad (upward in a stiff cramp) if I even consider stepping on a floor without thick socks or slippers.  Sometimes they curl up right through the socks.  I use heat (and screaming) to get through the pain.  But heat does do wonders.  I scream my way to the bathroom and put it under the faucet (but then you have to be careful not to let them hit the air again and get them right into a warm slipper) or I use a heating pad and put my foot in a slipper.  I have boot slippers all over my house now and even wear them in summer. I also eat bananas several times daily and drink gatorade a few times a week and I have not had leg cramping or whole foot cramping since.   It's not for no reason, it's because this medication that we took is horrible and has terrible side effects.  I went to a doctor, he did bloodwork and said there is really nothing he can do because there is nothing "wrong".  There are medications that I can take but they will just bring more side effects so he doesn't suggest them.  He said if heat is working, keep doing it.  I can no longer go in swimming pools because of the cold water so this year I'm going to see if there are any kind of "aqua socks".  The aqua shoes don't work.

    Heel pain

Helen, I'm sure you know that your symptoms are classic Plantar Faciitis symptoms. You are doing the right thing by applying heat. Blood flow to the feet can be tardy, thus the heat, stimulating the blood flow.

There are several ways to treat Pantar Faciitis, if it is severe. Nobody should live with such pain.

JanJan's symptoms, with pain on the top side of the foot are not classic for Plantar, but, still could be related and in my humble (as in Podiatric Medical Assistant) opinoin, should be addressed by a Podiatrist.

I'am sure the Chemo affected my feet

    Hello all,

longtime haven't posted. Life just takes over an before ya knw it a yr an a half is gone. my feet have never been sooo painful as they are now. I go see a podiatrist every month and been getting injections into the bottoms of my feet. The right more then the left but both painful. I work on my feet everyday up an dwn off my truck an have been coaching and playing mens softball for 15 yrs and have NEVER had problems with my feet as I do now post chemo .  And try sticking a 4 inch needle directly into the bottom of your feet. I have seen plenty of starts. Lol... My POD says its a direct affect of the chemo, now has it got better over the last yr or so .. yes.. But still get cramps still feel as if my socks are scrunched up inside my shoes numbing tingling etc etc..  My fiance has bought me a foot bath and I soak my feet almost nightly with Epsom salt an warm/hot water. It definitely helps. Hope all are as well as can be :) one love always :)

    Interesting. I was told

Interesting. I was told yesteerday that mine might be from being on cholesterol pills that it can be a side effect. But mine feel like yours do. Like I'm walking on something or have something stuck to the bottom of my feet. Something rough like bubble wrap. It's an annoying sensation. The only time they don;t feel too badly is if I put them on a heating pad. I'm not sure if they feel better or if the heat makes my mind notice that rather than the neuropathy. Now that it's summer a heating pad would be unpleasant.

    Heat

Heat increases blood flow, and that is helpful, especially if you are experincing nerve pain.
