Question about the progression of UPSC

in Uterine/Endometrial Cancer #1

My Mother was diagnosed with stage 4b on May 18th...she is now receiving hospice services at home....does anyone know the course of this disease?  I am concerned about the amount of blood she is losing and the large clots she is passing...I spoke to the hospice nurse and she said it was typical...anyone going through this that can add a little insight?

    What a journey you and your mother are going through.  I will keep you in my thoughts (and prayers) that what will be will be and it will be peaceful.  My bIL had Katskins cancer and as he entered hospice services, he gradually grew weaker and slept more.  Finally he closed his eyes and passed peacefully.  I'm sorry I can't offer anything of hope, but I can try to send you and your mom love to know that you and she are special.  Hugs Nancy

    Donna, I'm so sorry your Mom

    Donna, I'm so sorry your Mom and you are having to go through this. Have you considered talking to your Mom's doctor about what to expect over the course of this? Knowledge won't change the outcome but it can make the journey easier on both of you. I hope your Mom is resting comfortably and is kept pain free. Please come back for support and know that we are all here for you.

    • Im so sorry to hear about your mom. Has she seen a gyn/oncologist? There's no denying that 4b is a terrible thing to hear but there are ladies on this site who have recovered from even this stage of cancer. Has her doctor recommended any treatments- surgery, chemo, radiation? There are so many new treatments and medications being introduced for the treatment of cancer. Metformin has shown almost miraculous results for some.
    • As far as the progression of UPSC, it is a high grade aggressive form of cancer. It can spread to other organs and lymph nodes even outside of the abdominal cavity. But, again, there are so many treatment options available that go beyond the palliative care your mom is now receiving.  Did your doctor say why he is not recommending any further treatment?
    • I was diagnosed with UPSC in Oct 2013. I had surgery ( radical hysterectomy), 6 rounds of chemo and 3 rounds of internal radiation which I completed in May 2014. To date I show no evidence of disease. So please make sure your mom is seen by a qualified gyn/onc and get a second opinion if necessary!  Love and hugs, Sandy

    one of my Mother's kidney's

    one of my Mother's kidney's is not functioning...therefore the chemo would be in such a low dose that it would not be of any benefit.  

    It has spread to her lungs, lymp noids, and pelvis...

    I have been researching day and night...Called today to the National Cancer to find out about any clinical trials...got some information from them today...there is only one clinical trail available in Houston and not sure she even qualifies for it.

    Hospice is a wonderful agency that helps terminally ill folks cope with end of life concerns. Your Mom is in good hands. Treatment for UPSC, regardless of stage, is impacted by the health - or lack there of- of the person in question. I was fortunate to be in great heath when diagnosed with stage 3a UPSC, so that meant that I could likely benefit from a hysterectomy and oophorectomy and could benefit from the maximum dose of chemotherapy. Will I remain NED?- no one knows- so I simply try to live each day with purpose and meaning. 

    I wish you and your mom peace.
