Lung Met Question

in Colorectal Cancer #1

As many of you know, I had what they were pretty sure was two small lung mets that I had radiated about a month and a half ago. I was at the hospital yesterday because of an infection and they were looking at the results of CT scan I had on Friday. The doctor- just a GP- said the results say that the spots are much smaller now and seemed pleased with them.

Is that what I'm supposed to hope for? I thought the idea was for them to be gone. Is this typical? I don't see my onc until the 31st and I don't know whether to be happy or cautiously optimistic or what.

Any ideas? Thanks you guys! You're so much better than trying to Google things.

    Husband's Onc. seems pleased

    Husband's Onc. seems pleased with his scan results.  He still has 4 spots remaining but they are small 5-6 cms.  They did grow from last scan but just a few cms.  He was happy that there is no new growth.  I would prefer to not have any spots, but am glad they are small!  I do find it odd that the chemo was strong enough to get rid of the tumor in the rectal/colon and the lymph nodes and really many, many spots in the lungs but just can't seem to get rid of the remaining ones.  I guess we just have to keep an eye on them!

    I don't know Jan, maybe there's more scarification in the lungs. I know it's hard to tell with brain tumors what is still tumor and what is scarring after radiation. Tissue dies, but it it doesn't dissappear quickly.        vtspa6, I hope you mean millimeters[mm].........................................Dave

    Happy AND Cautiously Optomistic

    That is how I approach things.  

    When I had my last check-up with the Onc, I was so excited because it marked two years NED. In fact, I clapped with excitement. My Onc, though I can't remember exactly what he said, implied that it was good but..... I take that as cautiously optomistic

    No point in getting too excited, then when something happens the fall is terribly hard. 

    So, Be happy AND cautiously optomistic.

    lung nodules

    My brother's onc always got excited when the nodules shrunk. They never disappeared, just got smaller. He had to go off of chemo for a few months because of his heart and they grew again. Now he is on Lonsurf which is a fairly new drug. He had 1 round so far and is tolerating it. I don't know if it will help, but keeping my fingers crossed.

    Great news!!!!

    Hi Jan I'm not a doctor but I would feel pretty happy. Your GP has seen the image and, as this is a question of size, having smaller mets is somethings to be happy about.

    Unfortunately mets do not dissapear from one day to another but It is a sign that something is working against the mets.

    Now doctors now n your case how to fight them

    If I were you I would be extremely happy

    Thank you! I just thought that the radiation would make them be gone or turn them into scar tissue. I'm glad they're smaller but to me that means they're still there, just smaller. That's not what I expected, I expected them to be gone. I don't know if this stops them from growing, slows them down, or kind of restarts them.
