Help Understanding a CT Report
After getting a chest xray I was told I needed at CT of my abdomen due to the radiologist seeing a mass in the upper left quadrant of my abdomen. Did the CT with contrast and IV and what was found is possible aneurysm. Here is the radiologist impression There is an oval 3 cmm mass in the hilum of the left kidney. It has peripheral calcifications. It is contigous with the main left renal artery. There is a smaller more inferior accessory renal artery. There are multiple renal arteries on the right side. A 3 cm partially calcified mass in the hilum of the left kidney. I suspect this represents an aneurysm. Ok with that being types what does in mean? Is it simple aneursym?

Not sure, but
did you ask these questions of your doctor yet? That might help give you some clarity since usually your doctor will begin the referral process to specialists to address this. At any rate, may I ask why you joined us on a cancer forum if they are confident it's an aneurysm?
Not that we don't welcome you, but let's hope you aren't walking down the cancer path.

Ladywes,
Lets hope that after the URO visit that you do not qualify for membership to our club. Keep in mind tho that if you do at 3 cm it is almost a certainty that it will be resolved with a full and completely with a little surgery. Mine was almot 14 years ago.

Has your doctor
Hello,
Has your primary care or a urologist seen this report yet?
I am more concerned about a calcified aneurysm rather than something malignant. I am not trying to scare you, but ff it is an aneurysm, it may need to be addressed surgically before it ruptures. I suspect you may have had this for some time and were lucky to have found it now.
If this does turns out to be something else, 3cm is small in the world of renal masses, but I suspect that this is an aneurysm based on what the radiologist is saying.
Keep us posted and if you have some type of sharp pain on the left side, get to the ER ASAP.
