How much time between surgery and RAD?
Hello, friends
Everyone here has been so helpful through my treatment so far, so I feel very comfortable turning to you once again for some advice. In a quick summary, I was diagnosed June,2015, neoadjuvant TC until November, Shingles in February, finally surgery(partial) March 3rd.
It is now 10 weeks since my surgery. I have seen my PS about every 2 weeks, and she has felt that I still have swelling and internal healing going on. I saw a RO who said she will wait until the PS gives the all clear. That RO retired and I met with another doc who said that he feels the CT scan can be done the end of May and rad begin in June. I am reading so many posts that just about everyone who needed RAD began about 4-6 weeks post surgery. I am looking at POSSIBLY starting 13 weeks post surgery!!!!
While it seemed that the chemo did it's job, there were 2 areas tested at surgery that showed cancer cells. This is why I agreed to radiation to "clean up" what may be remaining. I was blessed that there was no lymph node involvement, but I am getting concerned about the length of time that is passing. Other than the PS, I have not seen my BS since the end of March, I have not seen my MO since I finished chemo in November. When I mention symptoms such as continued fatigue, coldness, and neuropathy, I usually get responses such as, "that's interesting," or, " you did have chemo." But these may also be signs of anemia, or a thyroid imbalance (family history). Should I not have at least a blood test to check levels by now????? I don't want to tell the specialists what I think they should do ( I have been pleased with my progress), but in some ways I don't think I am being followed as closely as I have read about the treatment of others. My original tumor was stage 2, grade 3. The concern about the aggressiveness of the disease at DX does not seem a concern to doctors now, post surgery.
Any advice about how to approach the doctors without sounding pushy or ungrateful would certainly be welcome. I was even thinking about setting an annual physical with my PCP and asking her to run a CBC check for me. I am hoping that if anything started festering that it will be seen on the CT scan. Yes?
Thanks!
Kathy

Can't say I can help you out
Can't say I can help you out with this, as after my surgery (double) I did chemo. The pathology reports were such that chemo was added to my treatment. After chemo, I did radiation therapy. (This was going on four years ago for me.)
- Surgery - third week of February
- chemo - early April through mid-July
- radiation - about the 2nd week of August through September
