Clear cell ovarian cancer

Hello. My mother was diagnosed with stage 1c clear cell ovarian cancer last summer. She had surgery to remove everything followed by 6 cycles of carbotaxol chemo. She completed chemo in October of 2015. Unfortunately, the cancer came back as stage 4 this February. She started doxil/avastin but has had an allergic reaction to the doxil. Her doctor is going to continue to give her avastin until she figures out what chemo to use. Does anyone know if avastin alone can stop the cancer from progressing? I would really appreciate it any of you could tell me what worked for you all or someone you know. Any information would help. We are looking into clinical trials at MD Anderson as well. Thank you.

    STAGE 1 C SURVIVOR

Pam, so sorry about your dear Mom.  But I'm here to tell you there is plenty of hope to go around.  I had stage 1 C clear cell in 2000.  Surgery, treatments, and it returned in 2006.  Surgery and treatment again, and I am happy to say it has been 10 years since my recurrance.  I can't speak to the Avastin, but on my second treatment rounds I had the Carboplatin and Taxol again, and developed an allergy to Taxol.  So we just finished out with the Carboplatin.

I'm sure your Mom's doctor will find an appropriate treatment plan for her.  Remember, the 1C means that the tumor ruptured, and therefore it was always more likely that it could return.  So, they will surely find something to wipe this thing out.  There are so many new trreatments these days that I am not familiar with.  I'm sure other ladies will give you some tips as well.

Please keep us informed.  Prayers for your Mom and you - she is blessed to have such a caring daughter.

Pam~Will send U some info on Avastin a bit later today

     Hello Pam,

It is rather late, and I have just answered "Tia", and it's way past my bedtime now.  But I do have specific info on AVASTIN.  I know MDAnderson is a good place, but if I can post the web links you can read more for yourself and it will help to answer your question.  But for now, this site has just changed the way our page looks, and it is "blocking" every letter that I send if I put in a precise web link.  Normally, I can copy and paste a web link in as part of my response, and there has been no problem.  Now all of a sudden, it is blocking every letter that I write if I have a precise web link pasted.

Furthermore, I wish they would have put the word "Submit" as it used to be or even the word "SEND".  I was confused as to what "SAVE" meant.  Then when I had nothing else to choose from, I just clicked on "SAVE" and it posted.  In my mind, I "save" things in my file on my computer.  I'm not used to using the word "SAVE".  Sometimes the old saying fits.  "If it ain't broke--don't fix it" applies here if you ask me.  So that may be a problem with how I can transmit the site addresses to you, but I'll try.

I see you have received some encouragement from Monika.  That is always helpful.

    Update on mlm

My mom had a CT done this week and it showed that the tumor has gotten bigger. So the Avastin did not work. Thankfully it has not spread anywhere else. She was having some pretty bad side effects of the Avastin anyway. We have an appt with her doctor at MD Anderson for this coming Monday. Hopefully now that she has failed Avastin they will get her into a clinical trial.
