Feels like I'm sitting on something, getting anxious, what could this be?
I'm 30 year old male, around last week I started to get his feeling in my anus as if I was sitting on something. I have no pain, but it's very annoying. No blood in stool, really no digestive issues until anxiety set in. at first I thought it was hemmeroids, and went to see GP, who said he saw nothing, everything looked fine and referred me to a GI for anoscopy. Unforunately the few GIs I've called don't have appointments available for weeks, and I'm borderline hypochondriac and this is dominating my life at this point. Exercise/Warm baths help, I was hoping it may have been allergic reaction to something and cut some stuff out. I don't feel it if I'm in certain positions (eg on stomach with legs spread) I don't know if it's just somethign with nerves, and something that will go away on it's own, but I'm getting really anxious at this point because lots of goolging has lead to no answers since I just have this single symptom. Any idea what it could be?

Hi, don't we all wish there was a way to flip the anxiety switch off as easy as it comes on? Unfortunately, if you are like most, that won't happen until you get some answers. I will tell you that this feeling could be a number of other things than what may be going through your mind, but I would most definately continue to persue this issue. Although your GP said he saw nothing, a better examination with an anoscopy may still reveal a bothersome hemmeroid. Veins in the anal area can become inflamed as well and cause discomfort.
That being said, I have always respected those who have shared the truth whether easy to hear or not. For more than a year prior to my diagnosis of anal cancer I had a very similar feeling. I felt it especially when sitting on a hard wooden chair....almost like there was a small hard bump, not really painful, just there and annoying. I had "life" happening and did nothing about it. I also could not feel it when laying on my stomach. In time (1-2) years later, the symptoms had greatly increased, I was fatiqued, lost weight, trouble with bowel movements, and once I began to bleed heavily, put my life as it was on hold and went to the doctor. I was dx with Stage3b anal cancer.
That was over 5 years ago now, and while the treatment was tough it was certainly doable. I have a very difficult time forgiving myself for not seeking treatment sooner....no matter the reason. Had it been an earlier stage I would still have underwent treatment and not be dealing with mets to my lung (last spring) which is very uncommon when initially diagnosed with early stage.
By no means do I wish to add to your fear or anxiety, I just want for people to know the importance of early diagnosis. This concern of yours may have nothing to do with cancer at all, but it is better to error on the side of caution, than to be sorry down the road. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers that this is merely a minor issue and easily treated. While waiting a few weeks to see your doctor for more tests is very frustrating, it is also not uncommon. Try to busy your mind and stay off the internet google sites as they are often inaccurate and add to worry. Please keep in touch and let us know what you find out.

Hi,
I hesitated to post earlier as I really do not want to add to your worry....Yes hemmeroids can last very long and some people need surgery to remove them if they do not resolve on their own. While when I first noticed an awareness of the bump, I did not have bleeding, it was only a week or two after that I had some light spotting. I am now a 57 yr old female and so I related the off and on bleeding over the couple of years to menopause.
Rather than waiting so long for GI, would it be possible to get an appointment with a colorectal surgeon/doctor. I hate that you have this worry and wish there was more I could say to ease your mind.

I just hope it's nothing and goes away on it's own soon, thought of surgery is even scary. I just made an appointment with Gastro PA to get appointment ASAP (early next week) Is the odds of this being cancer since I only have one symptom non existant?

Hi,
I am again sorry for your anxiety over this, but I am in no way qualified to answer whether or not the odds are one way or another and the only real way to tell what is going on is through an examination. But, please remind yourself that our bodies are very complicated and what seems like one thing could easily be something else. You are young, and anal cancer is more common in people twice your age. I am unaware of other risk factors you may have in your background but regardless, this is still considered a rare cancer. I'm glad you have another appointment set and truely hope you are able to get relief soon.

Katheryn has already given you lots of good information, so I may have little to add, other than to say I am sorry for your worry, but glad you'll be seeing a doctor soon to get checked out.
I was diagnosed with anal cancer in 2008 and, like Katheryn, ignored some symptoms for awhile. Those included fatigue, unexplained weight loss, a feeling of never being completely emptied out after a BM, anal itching, and mucous discharge. It is when I began bleeding that I knew something may be seriously wrong. I was diagnosed by a colorectal specialist for a colonoscopy who, after hearing of my symptoms during my initial visit, examined me that very day by anoscope and told me she was 99% sure I had anal cancer. It was confirmed as Stage 1, for which I received the standard treatment of chemo and radiation. Almost 8 years later, I am still here. I am telling you this to reinforce what has already been said--early diagnosis is key and greatly increases the odds of successful treatment All of that said, there are other reasons you could be having the symptoms you mentioned, so pursuing a definitive cause of your symptoms is important. If you do not get satisfactory answers from the first doctor, then find another one for a second opinion.
I wish you all the best and hope that this turns out to be something minor.

For me, my first symptom that something was wrong was I felt like I was sitting on something but was clueless what was really going on. It wasn't till I had a colonoscopy that I found out what it was. I would have it checked out but think positive it could be alot of things.

Is it possible this is an allergic reaction to something or would I have rash around my anus? Reason I ask was because a few years ago I had a painful rash as a result of baby wipes. This time I have no rash, it just feels like it's on the inside, I cut some stuff out right away, it may have gotten better but didnt' give it more than a week, then ate some nuts I have been eating more lately and feel it got worse (could just be in my head though)

I felt like I was sitting on something, like you. I couldn't sit on a kitchen chair, a bench at the gym, forget riding a bike a the gym. I'd get an appointment with a specialist to get this looked at ... I saw my PCP and he referred me to a surgeon who does colonoscopies. He just does a check in his office with a tiny little scope ... BTW, he did tell me not to use ANYTHING in that area but plain water! While you're waiting for the appointment to occur, you can always reevaluate how the bottom is feeling. Better safe than sorry, make the appointment now. You always want to catch this in as early as possible stage, if it's anything!

Everyone here has given you excellent information, I agree you should seek a colo-rectal surgeon for an anoscopy. I started with my PCP he sent me to a a GI, he walked me to a colo-rectal surgeon. Save yourself a step. Good luck & keep us posted.
