Fistula during Chemo - Bad luck - Stopping Chemo? keeping antibiotics for long???
Good morning
After the second FOLFOX session my mom had her second urine infection. We were told that a intestinal vaginal fistula is probable, almot sure due simptoms- They are considering to stop chemo for surgery or reduce the FOLFOX dose to avoid infections. I don't know if keeping antibiotics for long (6 months could be a solution)
Any similar experiences. I am worried that if the stop chemo mets will spread all over her liver when now she only has 3 mets
Would it be better to reduce FOLXFOX dose than stoping for a month and a half?
Thanks in advance for your expereinces an support
Today for us is a very sad day

They said Folfox didn't work
They said Folfox didn't work for me even with the full course of treatment, as I had two reoccurances in the liver. When I asked if they wanted to do it again, he indicated no. So it may not be effective even at full dose and treatment. They could still do Avastin, which is not chemo, and is easier on a body, that may slow progression, I don't know. Sorry your having a rough day, you and your mom...............................Dave

Yes a rough rough day. Lets wait some days until doctors decide what to do. Sometimes things go bad and it seems it is impossible to do something to avoid it.
Would be so great that metformin (in the other thread) were an alternative
Thanks for your reply

Same here
So I found out yesterday that I have a rectovaginal fistula. They stopped radiation and chemo. The plan is to wait for 4 weeks for some healing and then do surgery to remove rectum, remaining cancer and whatever else.
Later surgery to repair the vagina.
The fistula was most likely caused by radiation. It's a hole from my rectum through my vagina. Now I leak really nasty stuff.
I don't know if I can make it 4 weeks. I think that my urine is also going through my vagina.
I'm thinking of going to Washington Hospital Center ER. I've lost all confidence in my oncology team. Maybe I can get a new set of doctors.

I had a rough time during radiation, but your report makes me think I had a walk in the park, in comparrison.
I hope things go well, and that you find a team that you have confidence in. And I hope the fistual gets sorted, and soon.
