Lymphederma

On recovering from the robotic surgery 2 weeks ago I have endeavored to take a walk in the neighborhood as much as is comfortable.  The length of the walk increased slightly every time (about every 2 days).  On last Monday I noticed I could not walk as far as earlier due to groin pain and actually had to lay on the side of the road until my husband could go and return with the car.  I recovered quickly.  Today (Wednesday) I could not even get that far with out significant groin pain.  Swelling is noticable in right groin area.  After a few minutes of rest in prone position the pain passes and swelling recedes. I have not yet had the post op appt.  I was told sentinel nodes would be removed.   I would appreciate responses from those knowledgeable about lymphederma from lymph nodes removals.

    Lymphodema

    Hi Baby:

I don't know a lot about this condition, but I'm not sure your symptoms match what this is.  From what I understand, this is caused by a build up of lymph ( the other fluid that circulates in your body as opposed to blood) due to the removal of lymph nodes.  I had a lot of lymph nodes removed and as of yet (fingers crossed) haven't had a problem.  I think it's more of a generalized edema type swelling and not sure if it's really painful, more so you feel very swollen.  Also not sure that it comes on quickly and resolves quickly.  I think it's a generaly build up of fluid and takes a while to resolve once you have it.  Probably should check with the doc.

    Lymphedema

Yes, lymphedema is most likely what you are experiencing. Mine became apparent about 2 months after my surgery in 2013 for uterine cancer. I was diagnosed with the condition about a year later. Your groinal pain is familiar to me. I have it often. You are wise to try to identify the issue early and do what you can. Your body might find its own solution to the blockage problem. It's early yet.

Baby Coach,so sorry to hear of this set back

Maybe you should do much less walking until your doctor sees you.

Hope it will be sorted out soon. Setbacks plagues this journey, we hope for minor ones but we stay braced but it is probably strain from the walk though.

I had some groin pain after

I had some groin pain after surgery and it seemed to last for several weeks. Mine was more of a swelling but it did seem to subside after awhile and I have not been bothered by it. I walk as much as I'm able, but I do have a bad knee that is really been bothering me. Chemo makes it worse during the week of chemo. Keep your chin up. Recovery can take awhile, but you can do this.

    Thx

Gosh I thank you all so much. I do not have much of a patience capacity. I'm usually interested in resolving problems and moving forward. I think my task in this life is to learn the virtue of patience and this Cancer episode is the great teacher. STILL, I want this FIXED!

I will just have to take more care about walking and wait to see what develops. UGH!

    BabyCoach, I would recommend

BabyCoach, I would recommend you call your doctor and get checked.  When my leg swelled I was rushed in for an ultrasound to be sure it wasnt' a blood clot.  After that was discounted I was assigned a massage therapist who could help reduce the swelling and then properly fit me for a compression garment.

They make cool garments for arms and hands but nothing for legs.  I have already decorated two of my older leg garments with a permanent marker!

    Lymphedema

Make sure that you are referred to a massage therapist who can teach you how to control this.  I have L leg lymphedema. Can get very thick compression stockings from the local hospital but actually buy on line from the USA as the range is very wide and I do not like the closed toe.

    Checked out

Thanks for good advice.  I did have my leg checked out yesterday.  Does not show typical blood clot signs but I am watchful.  Believe it to be a transient problem that "may" disappear or the beginning of lymphedema.  I'm resting all day with warm compresses.  Better.  Fingers crossed.
