Scan results - anyone else with bone mets?

in Anal Cancer #1

Per latest CT scan results, my liver met shrank a little bit. Lung met stable. I now have a met to spine which terrifies me further. I need to keep going on Erbitux/gemzar treatment. They are adding zometa for bone met. Doctor was really excited by my results- which confuses me. Yes liver is responding to treatment. And lung is at least stable. But I have added tumor load of bone met. I meet with local oncologist this Monday. Hopefully this will help me make better sense of things.  JD

    Bone Met

    I have had a lytic lesion on my T4 veterbrae for about four months now.  My oncologist suggested that I get it radiated away, so I've signed up to get it done in a couple of weeks.  It won't make any difference to my other non-responsive tumors, but it will make me feel better.

    I'm so sorry you have to add this to your list of things to treat.  I'm glad your treatment so far has been effective for the lung and liver tumors.  I hope you will got lots of answers on Monday when you see your doctor and that you'll keep us posted.  I wish you all the very best, as always.

    skin cancer / lump in my leg

    Thanks everyone for responses. I also discovered two hard lumps in my left leg, situated close to site of previous radiation. I had it biopsied yesterday. Doctor also removed a mark on my face, which she said was suspicious for squamous cell skin cancer. I won't know results for a week or so. I start treatment of bone met this Monday. They will be using Zometa to strengthen bones. If met starts to get out of control, radiation is an option. I am currently on Erbitux.

    Never a dull moment!

    Have they been giving you anything for bone met since it was discovered? I would be interested to hear of your experiences with upcoming radiation. Wishing you the best! JD

    My oncologists don't seem worried about my spinal lesion, suggested we just watch it unless it starts to really bother me.  Mind you, that's sort of what they are saying about all of my many and varied tumors, that we should throw various chemos at them and hope that some stick somewhere.  No point in taking out one tumor here or there as there are so many and more keep popping up each scan.  So on Tuesday I start on Taxol/Carboplatin, guaranteed to make me deathly ill and lose all my hair, oh joy, with very little hope that it will help at all.  I am doing this more as a placeholder to keep me in Dr Eng's good books until her next trial opens up.  If there is no suitable trial, then I've already decided that this chemo/combo is my last shot.

    I am sorry that your journey has been so testing. I hope that your lack of faith in your upcoming chemo combo turns out to be unjustified.

    Taxol/Carbo is a good combination.
