    I've really been craving for

    I've really been craving for healthier food.  Especially greens.  I can't have a salad right now but yesterday I mixed up a concotion that was healthy and delicious and I was able to eat it.  I took kale and tore it up into tiny pieces and diced mushrooms and sauted them with garlic and olive oil.  I then mixed that with a multi-grain rice medley which consisted of brown, red, and wild rice with quinoa.  It was a bit of a struggle to eat it but was it delicious!

    Sounds like you are taking

    good care of yourself and listening to what your body needs. Good for you Tonita! It's hard to put the effort into eating and swallowing sometimes but you are doing great.

    Food

    Anything that you can taste chew and swallow is a big plus in my book, glad to see you enjoying what you are eating.

    Chia pudding!

    Hello, I've been reading and enjoying this forum since I finished surgery and rads in June of last year.  Yes, eating is tough going...the open sores, heavy secretions, lack of appetite and everything that goes along with the healing process.  The first two months I lived on soup and Scandishakes made with whole milk, honey and ice cream. Even water was brutal in the beginning.  I fully concur with the buffet idea...some things worked for me, many did not,  As soon as I could chew and swallow a bit, beets were surprisingly easy to tolerate.  Anything with white flour (breads, cakes, pasta, etc.) was...and still continues to be...a disaster.  Little by little, I added tiny bites of chicken, meat, cheese, cottage cheese with melon.  Anything stringy (like spinach or asperagus) was not doable.  Eggs are okay but I hate oatmeal.  Risotto is a good option, though, since it doesn't swim around in my mouth the way rice does.  I want to give you a easy recipe for chia pudding.  In a medium bowl, mix 2 cups of almond milk and a one-quarter cup of chia seeds (I buy them on Amazon, much cheaper than in the health store).  When well mixed to prevent clumping, add three tablespoons of maple syrup and cinnamon to taste.  Mix together and refrigerate overnight.  You can also add fresh pomegranate seeds before eating.  It's delicious and loaded with anti-oxidants.  Very easy to swallow (you can thicken or thin to taste).

    This will get better!!!  Very slowly but it will happen.  My taste is still at only about 50% (and may not improve that much more) and I'm still unable to eat a great number of things, but I can now enjoy a meal in a restaurant (I generally order appetizer sized portions) and family holiday meals.  I'm single and I think eating is actually easier when you can accommodate yourself.  Yes, eating is a big part of living and it's hurtful to have it compromised so much...on top of everything else all of us have had to deal with...but things improve in time.  Count on it!
