Showtime!

Well, Tuesday is the big day.

Danger Will Robinson!

The robot goes in for a whack at my left tongue base and lingual tonsil.   Also, there will be a partial neck resection on the left side.

I am sorry that I have been absent for a while.   I have been withdrawing from most everything these days.

    Best of luck to you,

Best of luck to you, Richard!!!

I tend to think of withdrawing as not an entirely bad thing. You are just gathering your inner strength. At this stage and beyond, you have to be careful how you "spend" your energy and your time. We'll always be here if you need us. In the meantime....

    Good thoughts only!

I'm glad you posted. You'll be in a lot of prayers here on the H&N board. Honestly what they can do with robotic surgery is space age. I hope you have a good result and the recovery is a smooth one. (harking back to some earlier posts...between you, me, KCass and MI-6 - don't reveal anything while you're under anesthesia!)

    Thoughts and prayers.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I almost didn't open this as I thought we had our Spammerback. Just seeing Showtime made me think of that.

Remember to just face this head on and with all you have, and you can beat this. Get attude.

Wise words from the others. I am a pre-Robotic Base of Tongue survivor. Mine was in 2004, part of my tongue was removed along with a radical neck disection on the right side. We understand you wanting to step back on posting often.

Each of us reacts to this in their own way, no way is wrong, what fits you best is the way to go. I know, I wanted the cancer out of me, and wanted to do whatever it took to do so. I followed the advice of my Surgeon whom I put my trust in. So far, all is good at this point besides some of the "New Normals" that come along with what we go thru.

My Best to You and Everyone Here

    Good Luck!

Being one who had the TORS, may the force be with you!  I am surprised they are doing your neck at the same time.  The pain from the tongue/tonsils will be quite high.  But then the partial neck dissection isn't very painful at all so that's probably the reason.  Some people didn't have as much pain as I did so I hope you're one of those.

Make sure you get good pain meds for at least the first two weeks.  My (a##hole) doctor only gave me the minimum pain relief and wouldn't even discuss anything stronger when I needed it.  Problem was, he was the only one authorized to operate the TORS machine so I was quite out of luck.  May yours be better.

Let us know just how bad it was once you feel like posting again.  BTW, day one is a breeze.

    Richard,

The initiation into this club is high, but if you promise me you will start drinking water and swallowing, I will put in a good word for you.

    Good luck,

    Matt
