I think my mom has lung cancer
Still waiting on results, but I'm having a really hard time being positive. They found a 6cm mass in her lung. She is a smoker and cancer runs in the family. I go through waves of emotion feeling overwhelmingly sad as I think about what happened to my aunts/uncles due to this disease and my mom ending up that way. Thankfully she stopped smoking since they found the mass. I'm sure she is terrified but she tries to not show it. I keep crying but I want to be strong for her. How can I be positive?

your mom
Hi Linda, You can try to stay positive by having faith. I was diagosed coming up on 2 years this July. I am now cancer free! The medicines are so much more advanced these days that there is a good chance your mom will be just fine. What stage is her ancer? Mine was stage 3. I had my right lung removed in August 2014 then went through 4 rounds of chemo in the fall of 2014. Unfortunately I had to get more chemo beginning in July and this time needed 6 rounds. Now for the rest of my life I get an infusion of Avastin every three weeks. So there is hope. Please keep positive thoughts and try to have your mom think positive thoughts. It's much healthier! Let me know what you find out and good luck to your mom and family!

Going through a somewhat
Going through a somewhat similar thing with my mom. I cried once in front of her and am trying to remain strong. It's so important to live in the moment because you don't know the outcome. Being positive helps the outside and can cure the inside too! My thoughts and prayers are with your mom for a positive outcome.

Thank you for your response. Yes, being positive really helps a lot. I'm trying to be, and I keep finding myself going on google and looking stuff up and then getting depressed about it.. I need to stop. What a horrible horrible disease. It is good to hear that there are people out there who have been through this and are doing well.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your mom as well. I hope she gets better.

he's more of a mortician than a dr. I know how hard it is not to look though. You have questions and you need answers. I so get that. Waitingto talk to the doctors is very hard but it is the best thing. FYI, my husband also has lung cancer stage 3b and has been NED (no evidence of disease) since DEc 2014. DOn't lose hope.

Your mom
Hi again, Stay off Google, lol! I know most people go right to the computer to do research, but I never did. The only thing it would do to me is get me upset. I left the research to the doctor's, but if it makes you fell better, do it. I'd like to keep in touch so if you can post your mom's progress, that would be great. If they want her to have chemo. I'm not going to lie. It's going to be tough. I had two different "rounds". The first time 4 treatments, the second time 6. My doctor told me it's not a curable disease, but manageable. Like I said, it'll be 2 years in July and I'm feeling beter all the time. I'll keep you and your family in my payers. Susan

Yes, I stopped google bc it is not helping at all, except to find these forums.
Thank you thank you thank you for the note. I keep feeling hopeless and scared. Still waiting on results, just have to take it day by day and think positive.

Yes, I'm avoiding it now because it's only gotten me more and more depressed, other than finding these forums which provide hope. Still waiting to hear from the doctor about the biopsy results. I think we should hear from her today. I feel sick to my stomach. But I have to be positive. Thank you thank you thank you for sharing your story. I'm supposed to be getting married in August and my mom is more excited than me and my fiance. I want her to be there and to be feeling well.

Linda, Glad to hear you're staying off Google. I'm sure it would have depressed me too if I had gone on there. I think I was in denial for a period of time. I didn't tell any of my family for 1 1/2 weeks. Just didn't know how to say it and knew saying it out loud would make it real. I am waiting and praying for the results for your mom. There is hope so you hang in there! Susan

Hello, Sorry you had to find us. I wax dx with lung cancer 9-23-2010 and had my lower right lobe removed via the vats procedure. That was my 2nd cancer and was found early my 1st was dx and treated 6-30-09. So far so good for both.
I just want you to know there are a lot of options now a days. BTW, I was a 35 year smoker and quit after my 1st cancer.
Please check out the Inspire Web Site as well as there are a lot of lung cancer survivors there and a lot of posters.
I wish you and your mom well.

I feel your pain
My mom had been sick for many months, in excrutiating pain, and lost almost 30 pounds. For "many months", that time was from Thanksgiving to now (2015 - 2016). On 4/1 she was diagnosed with stage 4 squamus cell lung cancer. We thought she was getting going to be diagnosed wth a severe cold, CHF and sent home with some fluid reducers and antibiotics. Instead, our world was rocked with the diagnoses.
We have been trying to help in any way possible but often feel we are not doing enough; we are still shell shocked with everything: new medication, oxygen 24/7, shortness of breath with every little movement she has. I use google sparingly but I need to see the big picture but it is hard to widdle through it all.
I am overwhelmed, shocked, and sad to just name a few. I have spoken with God a lot and asked that He care for my mom the best way he can. Being positive is hard BUT it is important for you and your mom. My sisters and I laugh often in between the tears and sadness we feel. Laughter is the best medicine.
Sending you prayers!
