Still in shock after wife's initial visit with internist who detected 6 cm mass in the omentum.

We have our first follow-up appt scheduled for Monday Mar 7 with a GYN and another with an oncologist. Scared! Numb. Living in limbo. walking dead.

    first visit with gyn

So we went to our first GYN appt and got more disturbing news after she viewed ct scan results summary. Her terminology was "this looks worrisome" translates for us to "hopeless". She ordered blood work to look for tumor markers and said she will e-mail results in a couple of days. She was concerned enough to recommend we visit with a GYN Surgical Oncologist who will most likely schedule a major debulking surgery to remove all currently visible cancerous masses to be followed by chemo depending on type of cancer found. I called to schedule the first available appt with the oncologist and was told nothing available until end of March or early April. How quickly does this stuff spread? Is a whole month away typical if something looks "worrisome"? We both really want to jump on this as quickly as possible, but are clueless about urgency from the medical perspective. Any experience and aid about where we find ourselves will be greatly appreciated.

    Wait time

When my husband was first diagnosed from the time of his biopsy to the start of his treatment was a month.  Then when it returned and we were referred to a specialist, it took 2 weeks to see the specialist then another 3 weeks for surgery.  So waiting is not something new.

You want a specialist who has a great deal of knowledge and experience with your wife's type of cancer.  Second opinion is a great thing to do, something we didn't do and now I wish we had but it is too late for regrets.  As far as spreading, I can't help you there.  Some cancers are aggressive while others are not.  But many people wait to see specialists or for treatment to start.

Wishing you and yours peace and comfort.

Hoping you and your wife are ok

You're both in my thoughts and prayers.

My hubby was diagnosed in March as well.
