Ta-da...Thanks, I'm in the hospital recovering

in Colorectal Cancer #1

i just wanted to post and especially to tell everyone that I am so grateful for all the support and education along my journey.  I had my APR surgery Friday, and it was done laparoscopically.  There were no major complications, and I did not require a blood transfusion.  I am very grateful and fortunate.  I did however have a hard time coming out of anesthesia, but my hospital handled that with excellence.  

I also was treated awesome when it came to pain medicine.  i was in the PACU until mid-day Saturday, and I was quickly given a pain pump that I could use every six minutes.  i had that for almost two days, and am well managed in my pain.  They are taking excellent care of me, and it sorta reminds me of how caring and personalized the hospital care was in the 80's. They are really on top of thihgs here, and the karma is healing.  I am so relieved!

so, I'm sending my thanks and prayers for all our well being and good health out to our group!  The support I got here made me aware of what recovery should be like, and also how to advocate for me!  Super thanks!

i also learned that sometimes what one medical person says, is not the same as the doctor's plan.  The NP made me feel like they were treating this as a minor thing, which, thankfully they did not!  Going forward, I feel the support and experience we all share here helps us all in obtaining good care.  And a paper plan is not always OUR actual plan.

    So glad you posted

    to let us know how you were doing.  I was wondering how the surgery went.  So glad everything went well. I hope  you recover quickly and that your recovery is uneventful, except for good things Smile

    So good to hear from you, and you sound so chipper and happy.  

    I am glad that all of the bad stuff you heard before hand was unfounded, and that your care has been so first class. 

    Take good care of yourself, and get home where the comfy bed and good food is.

    thanks for all the super support over the short time I have been here.  It is so comforting and supportive to me to see so many replies to member posts.  

    I find this group very supportive and empowering.  Truly, the folks here are the "experts" as many of you have gone through, or are going through a similar journey.  

    I thank John, Sue, Lizard, Jan, Steve, and CM for your regular posts to my questions and concerns.  I also would like to say Hello to Laz, whom has been very supportive and experienced.  

    I am home resting, and I am happy that my hospital stay was excellent.  After surgery they quickly controlled my pain, and although an NP had given me concerns earlier, I was provided good pain relief and a pain pump the first day and 1/2.  It was truly needed.  

    I have learned that sometimes the residents and assistants to the attending will state something which later comes to be incorrect.  I think sometimes they get a little too far ahead of the doctor, as they gain their experience.  But, again, the care has been excellent.  I will mention to my surgeon that sometimes they got a little ahead of her...ex...saying the drain would br removed...but, the surgeon actually is keeping it in until the 15th.  And me being told my discharge would br on Sunday (which concerned me as i thought that was a day too soon) and then I was kept until Wednesday morning.  these are little things, but they caused me confusion and undue concern.

    so, i shared that little bit of info as I learned one important thing:IT AINT TRUE UNTIL THE ACTUAL DOCTOR SAYS!

    I'll go. one further, and say

    I'll go. one further, and say "It ain't true till it happens". Each surgery had things happen different than what was said at the outset by the onc/surgeon. I'm glad it all went so well for you, Sharron, you certainly deserve a break or twelve. Heal fast!............................................Dave
