side effects from chemo
Question: clarify "poses". Why are you on half the dose? From what you describe the docs say you have the flu. I hope your "flu" is over? The fact that you were "red as a lobster" appears to me as your having an allergic reaction to the chemo. I worry about that. Ask the person administering your chemo what drugs will be given to counteract the possibiity of an allergic reaction to the drugs. I think I took prednisone by mouth & also receive it in IV form (Decadron) when I got my chemo. Remind everyone who cares for you about what happened to you so that they take precautions. I hope I am not frightening you! I hope you feel better. Please keep in touch.

side effects from chemo & radiation
Tracy - I hope that you have received written & verbal instructions as to the treatment plan & home instructions. Read them carefully. Pain: what pain meds are you receiving? Mouth Care: what are you doing? Food: you will have appetite & taste changes; can you get a nutrition consult?
Just a few thoughts.

if you got red like that it could be allergy To some of the medication.
what worked for me for my anal pain is 600-800mg ibuprofen(Advil, Motrin) 3-4 time a day.
I hope you can resume your treatment and it be successful.

If you are caring for a grandchild while going through treatment, you need to ask for help from another family member or friend. I remember how miserable and tired I felt and could not imagine having to taking care of a little one during that time. Please ask for help. If you are a member of a church, talk to your pastor and see what the church can do to help you. Perhaps other members can provide babysitting services, transportation and meals for you. My heart goes out to you. Now is the time to ask for help.

Tracy figg....
I am so sorry to hear of the tough time you are having. I too have always helped care for my grandchildren so I can relate to the responsibility you feel. It is difficult sometimes to find someone else to step in, but this is something I think you will need to do for the good of your grandchild. In my community (and most) you do not need to be a member of a church to call them and ask for all different types of help.....once they know you need it, many will just volunteer, but you will have to let them know what you need to get started.
It does sound like you had effects from a flu or allergic reaction, so hope this next time goes smoother. I was taking oxycontin for pain during treatment and my doctor increased the dose on my regular every 12 hr and added a lower dose for break-through pain. Please ask about something stronger for your pain and take a stool softener to prevent constipation. I also had an allergic reaction to some of my meds and was given predisone and benedryl to help with that. There are many new meds your doctor can give to help with the upset stomach during all this. While they don't always take it completely away, they do help a lot. I tried to nibble on dry toast or crackers throughout the day and found that keeping something in my stomach eased the nausea too.
Remember to force yourself to drink fluids, staying hydrated is very important in handling this treatment easier.
Again, I'm not sure where you live, but ask at your clinic for advice on where you can get help in your area. Let them know that you are caring for a little one and may need some assistance temporarily......that little one will thank you later!
I will continue to keep you in my prayers.....

It seems that the docs are paying attention! I hope that your wbc's increase & that you are able to continue treatment. What country is your home?

Hi,
I am sorry to hear that you are in the hospital but it also means that you will receive the extra attention you need right now (I hope) I will pray they are able to come up with a treatment that your body can tolerate soon so you can move forward from all this.
