Once diagnosed and had surgery should cimetidine be taken for any additional surgery?  Specifically removing the port?

Thanks.

    Port gone

I think the Cimetidine is helpful in limiting the spread of Cancer, so there is no problem getting the port out, as there is no Cancer in that spot.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I did not take Cimetidine as I had not joined the forum when I had my surgery, and have picked the info up since.

    I agree,

I don't know any other benefits of Cimetidine than preventing the spread of cancer which is huge enough if true.

I took cimetidine for my final surgery

but didn't worry about it for my port removal.  Unless there's a chance you have cancer in the area of the port it doesn't seem necessary, as what research there is on the subject suggests that the drug helps to reduce the ability of the cancer cells to attach to surrounding tissues.

Here's a link from NIH about it...

kind of technical but the info about its use with crc is pretty readable, halfway down the page.

There's no way for me to prove it helped with my situation, but the surgery I used it for was my last (of five) and I've been a stage 4 NED since 2011.  Given its low toxicity, I think it's not a bad idea to throw it in for bit before and after surgery.
