Hey
Just stopping by to say hi. Did my orginial post on the ovarian board and was recommened to come over here. Today has been an interesting day. We are going on day 7 of not being able to keep food down. A friend of mine is like get a protein shake...good idea.. However and I am sure most of you know this it is not a matter of eating something it is a matter of keeping in your system... Any suggestions.. I have two more treatments of chemo out of 6 and then I move to 5 of radiation so this is the long haul.. How does everyone cope ?

eating
i am sorry you are feeling this way. I had similar issues and rarely could eat. No Naseau medicine worked and the Dr gave me a perscription for marijauna as she was afraid of the weight i was lossing. Maybe others have actually taken their Dr's up on that. She did tell me the most important thing was to drivk after chemo for your kidneys. For me unfortunately it was very cumulative and it got worse at the end. But i am happy to say things do go back to normal within time.
i did end up only eating very small amounts and it was a plain baked potato, few bites and some tostidos only as for some reson could I tolerate a few of those. It did take some to get to these two items.

Us0417, I am sorry to hear
Us0417, I am sorry to hear this. Did you call your doctor's office? I would think you need nurishment and 7 days without food is not going to help you recover. If you haven't done so, I would suggest you give the office a call first thing.

It is hard to eat anything
It is hard to eat anything sometimes. Popcycles work sometimes. I have had to go in for hydration several times because I couldn't eat or drink much of any thing. I also had some luck with smoothies and of all things pizza. Hugs and prayers, Lou Ann

I'm assuming they have given you a prescription for nausea pills to take for several days after chemo? If I'm not hungry, I try to drink a protein plus pre-bottled drink. Also, I have stomach pain when I take ibuprofen, if I absolutely need to take pain pills, I also take a OTC prilosec tablet once a day. It days help me. Hugs Nancy Oh, I also found watermelon helps me, and celery. But obviously those aren't very helpful foods to help build back up.

I would give my poor husband
I would give my poor husband a list of food I thought would taste good and I could keep down. He'd bring it home and it either tasted horrible or I would just throw it up. Nausea pills just didn't work for me most of the time. Popsicles, watermelon, Ensure and ice chips normally stayed down. Usually I could eat grapes but one night after I had eaten them I was throwing up all night - I will NEVER eat grapes again!!
I hope you can find something that works!!! I agree with the other ladies that you might need an IV to avoid dehydration. When I would get dehydrated my fingers would be all pruny and my ring would fall off and I'd be very cold. Please take care of yourself and let us know how you're doing.
Love,
Eldri

So sorry!
What has your doctor recommended? Has he tried different anti nausea drugs? When I was receiving chemo the nausea medications didn't help much, and it was really difficult for me to force myself to eat anything. A few bites were usually all I could manage. I know we are always told how important it is to eat protein, but, looking back, I think it's more important to eat whatever you are able to eat and keep down. If toast and tea or cookies and milk work for you go for it! Drinking plenty of liquids is more important than eating!
Chemo is so difficult for so many of us. Keeping your doctor aware of your reactions is very important. Sometimes changing the timing or dosage will help, sometimes it is necessary to change to a different chemo. i am sure your doctor can offer some alternatives to allow you to get through this and complete your treatment.
With love and caring, Sandy

Funny you should mention baked potato.. When I was in the hospital that was one of the only things I could keep down.. And it still is... That's too funny.
