Hi,
Martha is right, you'll need to get specifics from your doctor since he would have details of your individual situation. The day I went in and was diagnosed it was presumed to be anal cancer, I left knowing little more than that and with more dates for more tests. At one of those tests the diagnosis was confirmed as Anal cancer Stage 3b with lymph nodes in my groin involved as well. So, could it be that no, it has not spread that fast, but that you are just now getting a more accurate diagnosis as other test results come in......that is what makes most sense, but do always ask your doctor any questions to be sure you have a good understanding about whats going on.

Test
I was diagnosed with anal cancer Stage 2 in 2008. The original anal cancer diagnosis was a result of my colonoscopy and biopsy. After colonoscopy I had a MRI and they found one enlarged lymph node in my groin. My chemo doctor said at that time it could just be an enlarged lympoh node. I asked my radiologist and he said it would be radiated as well. As it turned out it was the lymph node was not cancerous. This was before they had determined my final stage of cancer.

While I think this is a question for your doctors, I'm sorry you have gotten this news. However, your radiation treatment will include the entire pelvic area, so the groin area will be treated as well.

I was diagnosed in 2011 with
I was diagnosed in 2011 with stage 4. I was shocked. My first symptom was misdiagnosed in March and it was August when I was diagnosed. It had only been a year since my previous colonoscopy. When I asked my oncologist if this was a fast spreading cancer, he stated it varies for everyone. I assume mine was fast growing since it had spread to my lympth nodes and liver. I have been NED since treatment and surgery to remove part of my liver.
