in Uterine/Endometrial Cancer #1

Hello everyone,

I just thougt I'd share my update on my endometrial biopsy. 

After 2 months of waiting and getting biopsy re-done, I saw gyn today and she said all they found was a polyp and she recommends ablation with freezing to get rid of polyp.  However, I told her that my periods are not bad--it has only been twice in the last 4 years that I had prolonged bleeding (2 & 3 months long).  I have never complained about heavy periods, so I don't feel  I need any procedure for relief.  Plus I read somewhere that one con for abaltion is that since bleeding is reduced or eventually gone, it can hide endometrial cancer symptoms if in the future I do get cancer.

Any advice on this procedure?  I'm still cnsideing second opinion, but just thought I'd ask you ladies with much experience.

    I'm sorry I don't have advice for you.  I was already in menopause by the time they found my cancer.  I think though, a second opinion is a good idea.  I hope it all works out for you.

    I guess I just worry that the procedure can mask any possible future cancer symptoms and then early diagnosis could go out the window.  But I am definitely going to make the best decision for me, which will include a second opinion.  And I want you to know that joining this forum has given me the courage to do so.

    Therefore---I thank all of you for sharing your stories so that others--like me--can learn from your experience.

    Ablation Option

    I can relate to your concern although our experiences are much different. Ablation was offered to me as a way to stop extremely heavy menstrual bleeding. I chose not to have it for various reasons. Long story short, after many, many ultrasounds and sonograms, I was finally diagnosed with Stage 1b, Grade 3 Uterine Carcinosarcoma (MMMT) after undergoing a D&C to remove what was thought to be a fibroid causing the bleeding in September 2015.

    I can look back now and be thankful that I made the decision not to have the ablation treatment as the cancer may not have been caught at such an early stage. I hope that you are able to get the information and opinions that you need in order to make the right decision for yourself. Wishing you strength and good health, Kim

    I agree with KV and Eldri a second opinion is needed.  And glad to see your going to go for one.  Early detection is the best for peace of mind.

     I had a number of cervical polyps removed (like about 6) over the years.  Then I got an endometrial one.  All of those were benign. Ten years later, I had another endometrial one and my gynecologist (a different one) told me he wanted to do a D&C, and he told me the polyp was almost certain to be benign.  It wasn't.  Instead, I had stage IVb UPSC (Uterine Papillar Serous Carcinoma).  If I were you, I'd ask for a D&C so the polyp itself can be biopsied, just in case that wasn't what they already biopsied.

    Thank you all for your advice.  I was telling my mom that I don't understand why my gyn is recommending this procedure.  I don't have chronic heavy bleeding.  I've had 2 "episodes" of prolonged bleeding in the last 4 yrs which have concerned me.  I have not complained about my monthly cycles, so why do I need that?  As you all said, I just want to know if there is anything cancerous--or pre cancerous in there. I thought she was going to recommed the D & C as well.  My mom told me the same as you--get another opinion!
