Husband had ENT visit today

And so far so good. ENT (his surgeon) said that husband is healing better than to be expected. Tongue looks great, mucositis is almost gone, neck looks great and feels fine, not taking any meds right now. My husband went back to work completely full time on February 1st. He is down to one or two tube feedings a day, with the rest of his food being by mouth. The ENT wants us to go on a date to the grocery store and buy lots of foods for him to try and see what he likes. The first scan (a MRI) is on Feb 23rd, and then we see the radiologist on March 3rd and the oncologist then too. We see the ENT on March 10th. We just keep on keepin' on and pray for good results from here on out.

Prayers and good thoughts to all.

Try a Buffet close to you

    swopoe,

Outstanding news on your husbands visit with the ENT. Just a suggestion on my part, before you spend a lot of money at the grocery store on foods he might not eat. A survivor many years ago suggested that we try testing the foods at the local Buffets to see what we could handle that day or not. Then wait awhile and try the Buffet again to see what works for us. I did this after I completed my treatments and as each week or month passed, I found my taste did improve with some foods, but not others.

    Wonderful!

That's wonderful news! A date to the grocery store? You've got to love your ENT's sense of humor. A buffet is a really good idea because you can take just a little sample of everything and not waste a whole dish. Prayers for your family that your husband continues to improve.

The buffet idea is a great

The buffet idea is a great one. We will do that for sure. And yes, the ENT is funny...an excellent doc, but funny too.

    Yes...a buffet....

I chose a Chinese Buffet...but any type would do.  I was able to take a spoonful of this, and a spoonful of that...and keep my "buds" in a state of constant surprise.

Congrats on the healing....the healing takes longer than the treatment, that's a fact.

    Here are some food suggestions

Great news. From my own experience, here are a couple of suggestions for food.  First try the broth that comes in cans of black beans.  It is smooth and a little salty and with a few beans with each spoon, lots of protein.  Next try clear sauced Chineses food like shrimp with lobster sauce or Moo GOo Gi Pan.  This food has the texture and taste that should work as you adjust to your new taste buds. Keep the faith, this is the easy part now.

Outstanding! He is doing very well. Crossing my fingers for you with all the tests. I'm sure he'll do fine. Get something special for Valentine's Day for the two of you .... chocoate ice cream?

    That is really good news.

I have to agree that the buffet is not only a great suggestion, but an even better solution to what can he eat and tasts best. I know that going back to work can be very tiring, but for me I had to do just to prove to me I made it.  More so because so much of my job aws talking on the phone and to truck drivers and my crew of loaders. Cancer took my vocal cords, but not my voice. I have a prosthesis in my neck that allows me to talk, so it ment I made it. My lungs finlly took me off work [COPD] but I beat the cancer.

Your husband has done so well in his fight. I know how hard it is one the spouse/caregiver. You have lots of emotions and so much to deal with and also all the worry for him. You never have time for you. You need that "You/ME time everyday if only 30 minutes. You see I really do understand, my wife has her own health Issues [heart nerve dammage chronic kidney failure etc.] So while I was in the hospital and she and my son stayed in an appartment across from the hospital, she fell and broke her foot. She never even told me, until a few weeks after I got home and was doing good. I asked, Why didn't you say something? She just smilled and said, I had enough to worry about, and there is nothing you could have done. I was her only concern. She did have our son with her and he did all the running around and getting the things I would need for my new normal. Could not have done it with out both of them.

Your husband could not have done this without you............
