Chemo re-scheduled

Hello everyone,

Seems like I am constantly asking questions of all of you. Sorry to always have new questions. It seems like I finally get all this cancer stuff down and then another issue pops up. Undecided

My newest question is: has anyone had chemo rescheduled due to low white count? This is my second one that is being rescheduled.

Gosh I want this over & I fell like I need to get back to work & I don't see that happening if I keep getting rescheduled. I asked the nurse, she said it is normal & I asked the dr, he said it's not. Ugh~

    Yes, low counts happens and delays chemo. My doctor gave me the Neulasta shots with each cycle to prevent that. Neulasta stimulates the bone marrow to make more white blood cells. They're expensive though and had to be approved by insurance company.

    Not a lot you can do to speed up the process yourself for white blood cells. If red blood cells are low and you're anemic than eating foods with iron gives body what it needs to make more.

    Cancer does a good job of teaching us to live one day at a time and not planning too far ahead.

    Thank you Puffin! I looked up how I could get my white count up (before your reply). Your right not much that can be done. 

    My doctor has given me neupogen which I take for 5 days after each chemo treatment but I guess they aren't working too well. Haha, no kidding! I have to cancel a dentist appointment & a Dr appointment now because chemo has been rescheduled.

    It did not happen to me, but

    It did not happen to me, but I got neulasta after every chemo. I did hear of it happening to others, though. Or even bring hospitalized due to neutropenia. Maybe ask if neulasta would work better for you?

     I Have an appointment with my oncologist Tuesday so I will ask him about getting neulasta Instead. It's so frustrating to keep getting rescheduled. I dread chemo but I want to get it done so I can move on.

    I hear you! I just wanted it

    I hear you! I just wanted it done and behind me... And now it's been 14.5 weeks already since my last one! 

    I'm OK. Struggling through rads.

    Rads

    How are rads going? I've heard they are better than chemo by some & worse by others. I'm hoping for better as I will be back at work by the time I start rads.

    The fatigue is not as crushing, but in a way it's worse because A. by this point we've been through a lot of stuff so we're already beat up and want it to be over and B. it's every day so it's relentless. 

    Some people have an easy time of rads. I am not having an easy time. I'm exhausted every day. Sorry if that scares you, but it's good to be prepared and maybe you'll be like most people instead of like me!
