My family had a major house fire a little over a year ago. All of us plus our dog were fine. The house will cost in the neighborhood of $300,00 to rebuild and the personal property loss is more than that. It is devastating. I speak from experience. It was absolutely incredible how even complete strangers stepped up to help out. As we were standing on the sidewalk across the street from our house a stranger came up to me and handed me a check for $200. I was stunned. My husband had run out of the house without shoes and someone brought him a pair from their own closet. The neighborhood collected dozens of gift cards for us as did our place of worship. Someone brought us food every night for weeks. Dealing with the insurance company has been challenging to say the least. If your family is in need of advice I would be happy to impart what I have learned. My thought are with them.

Denise i am so so sorry to hear about this fire. I really cannot imagine such a devastating outcome that a fire creates. Take gentle care of yourself as you help your dear sister and family.

wow, worry to hear of your fire..but like you said you were all safe..
My sister lives in rurual area...one neighbor came out-never spoke to us , but told a firement I put the dog crate on the end of her very long driveway and made him move it. Seruiosly...3 ambulances, 4-5 trucks and told him to move a small crate..NEVER an off of coats, come in her house to warm up or use the bathroom..but complete stangers have really stepped up-bbyeong belief, so makes nasty neighbor pushed to the back of our minds. Someone actully gave them a used car yesterday-on top of the fire-down one car-and then my sis dropped cell in toilet with all her contacts etc..to add frosting the cake...
Thanks for the replies...they are all safe..total tear down-they left with no shoes, coats etc.

How horrible of the neighbor. Who could be so mean? Thankfully, someone stepped up with a car for them. Losing the phone contacts not so good. Glad to hear everyone is safe. Linda

Hey Denise,
I work for a vision insurance company & if your sister has vision insurance they may provide new contacts free of charge. I live in California & when we had alot of fires this past year we provided free contacts or glasses to all the fire victims who had insurance with us.
Worth a try if she needs to replace the contacts.
