When will my hair start to grow again??
Happy Saturday to all you wonderful ladies (and Red Corvette)!!
It will be seven weeks on Tuesday since my last chemo and my hair is STILL not growing back. I look like Uncle Fester!! I never lost all my eyelashes or eyebrows but they're a lot thinner than before. All I have on my head are some little tufts of white which I never lost - although they pull out very easily. No hair any other place either!
I do see two little sprouts in the front and I've been babying them but I don't think they'll ever be enough for a "comb over." My husband says he'll still love me even if I'm bald but I would hate to have to wear a wig in the summer. Winter is ok because it's like wearing a nice, warm hat but.....I can't imagine sweating in a wig! I do have some fake bangs so maybe I'll just wear those under one of my many scarves if it never comes back.
I have been seeing some major progress on the port site wound. The Wound Care clinic prescribed some stuff I soak the "shoe string" in before I pack the wound. It stings a little but the wound seems to be getting smaller every day and it doesn't hurt so much at night. I go back in on Tuesday for them to evaluate and measure it to make sure this therapy is working. I wish I would have gone there right away back in November!!
Our youngest daughter is driving home from college today (three hours) so we can switch vehicles for the week. Hers is having some problems and our mechanic at work is going to take a look at it next week. I'm so excited! We're taking her out for lunch before she drives back. I went to Sam's yesterday - first time I've been shopping in many months. It was tiring but I feel like I'm getting my strength back in my legs, especially the left one. By the time I walked out of there, the leg was kind of dragging again and I was in bed by 9 p.m. BUT...at least I got out and about!!! Today I feel ready to take on the world (even though I'm bald).
Love,
Eldri

So glad you got out and about! It will get some better. I had a good hip and one with ostephroina(sp) in it. After chemo and radiation the good one had osteophina and the other full blown ostephrosis. I take D3 and Calsuim twice a day. So far, nothing has broke, but if I walk more than a mile, I better have hycodone with me or I wont make it back!
Double Whammy, Suzanne, I believe is the one who's hair never grew back. She could probably tell you more about this. Mine started growing back within one week of finishing chemo. I lost all brows, lashes, head hair, and everywhere else. Only the head hair has come back. no lashes bother me the most! I can d
raw the brows on pretty good, but my hand shakes too much to put artifical lashes on, so I go around looking like a perplexed Hoot-Owl

don't give up, you had a rough time with the meds...your system took a beating and needs to reboot! Best, Debra

Glad you felt like getting
Glad you felt like getting out. Even a little outing is good for you. If you made it through sam's you are doing great. On a good day I have to sit dowN a couple of times to make it through Walmart
Each time I got hair back, it started to grow a little at about 3-4 weeks. Now I am getting a little fuz in the back and I am still on Taxol/Carbo, so I don't know what that is about. It Kind of worries me. It did grow back while I was on Doxil, but Doxil doesn't take your hair and Taxol/Cabo does. ???
Hugs and prayers, Lou Ann

lost all of my head hair when I was on Carbo/Taxol, though I did lose most of it. And what was left did continue to grow during chemo, though very, VERY slowly. No hair anywhere else, though.
My head hair has really begun growing now at 6 weeks post chemo. Eldri, your body had such a hard time with chemo I wouldn't be surprised if it takes a bit longer for yours to begin to come back in force.

LOL, "a perplexed Hoot-Owl?" I had to laugh when I read that but I understand how hard it would be to put on artificial lashes - my right hand really shakes too besides having numb fingers. God only knows what I'd look like if I tried that!!! It's hard enough to put on mascara to the few lashes I have left without poking out my eyes!

I wonder if any of those hair-growing topical treatments would help? I have to go see my regular doctor at the end of next month. If nothing is growing by then maybe she would prescribe something....in the meantime, I heard that goose grease grows hair (I just made that up).

and now I don't remember where... someone was recommending Nioxin Scalp Therapy, though there was also a discussion about how now that it was being manufactured in Mexico it was no longer the same formulation. I actually discovered a small old sample in my medicine cabinet that I am trying out on the top of my head... my hair is thinner there anyway. Someone also recommended some Bosley product.

I'm still bald everywhere with no signs of growing hair. It will be 5 weeks on Monday since my last chemo.

Your hair
Eldri I guess it's like we always say, you are a statistic of one! As you are already hearing, we all heal and recover at our own rate. It is so wonderful that your port site has finally started to heal! And you are getting your strength back! After all you've been through, give your hair a break- its way to early to give up on it. So happy that you are on the road to recovery! Love and hope, Sandy

Bald Is Beautiful
Eldri, you're doing great! You're strong, your recovering, your husband loves you, and we love you too! Going today with my wife to get her new wig we ordered last week styled and picked up. Have to say we're kind of excited about it. Guess this crazy disease makes you appreciate the oddest things. Happy Sunday to all the great ladies here today!

Our friend Anne - AWK, said the same thing when it came time for me to shave my head!!!
At least bald reminds us that we are killing the bad cells. I am ready to stop looking like ET now. lol
Red - you and your wife will find a lot of new appreciations along this journey. There are some good things that do come with the bad.
I'm glad you are there for your wife. My husband's love and support have been so appreciated during this journey.
Love and Hugs,

l had three rounds of carbo/taxol and lost all my hair after one session, but I really didn't mind other than having a cold head, as it was winter, and especially at night. I simply wore a hat to bed! My hair grew back about three or four months after the last chemo and came in salt and pepper gray and very curly, which was very different from the light to dark brown hair I started with (aided by hair color for some years). Now I am content to go natural, but I still look twice when I see myself in the mirror. I am one year NED this month with UPSC and hope to remain that way!

Before my first go around with hair loss I asked at a local beauty school if there was anything that would help me keep my hair and they recomended Nioxin. I tried it, It was expensive, and for me it did nothing. Lou Ann

Did you only have three rounds of chemo in total or did you have three rounds, radiation and then three more rounds? I too have UPSC but had to quit chemo after three rounds because of the side effects.

Yes, only three rounds of carbo/taxol and no radiation to treat my UPSC! Before surgery my oncologist said that six rounds of chemo would be a given for my UPSC biopsy diagnosis, but that was changed when nothing was found except for a good sized polyp within my uterus. Clean pelvic wash, omentum, ovaries, tubes and 13 lymph nodes meant stage 1, but still grade 3. Therefore the tumor board felt that three rounds would be sufficient as they did not feel comfortable with no treatment seeing that UPSC has such a poor prognosis if it should be found elsewhere later. I did have some neuropathy in my fingers and toes, but that has resolved completely now.

I have Stage II - it had spread slightly into my cervix (even though I had a normal PAP two weeks before). My doctor recommended six rounds of Taxotere and Carboplatin. My CT scans both came back clean for any other tumors. I only was able to do three rounds. I had minimal side effects from the first two but the third one was horrible. I don't know if I could have lived through a fourth. Your story makes me hopeful that three rounds was enough to take care of any stray UPSC cells floating around!
Please keep in touch!

Advice to all of you ladies ,bald ones and planningto be bald
ones.
You can all "rock" bald, but first you have to develope an attitude sometimes called tude. Once you get the right tude on ,bald becomes a piece of cake.
You all had me laughing and thats a good thing. Now find a 'tude' thats right for you, don't forget the bright lipstick ,we can't have 'tude ' with pale lips. pale lips and bald head shows a lack of tude and spells 'thou art depressed',now that's not a good thing.
I am loving you all nuff nuff. Moli
