Trachea squamous cell carcinoma

in Head and Neck Cancer #1

Haven't been on this forum for a while.  I hope the rest of you are doing well.  I was treated for tonsil cancer a year and half ago.  I thought I was one of the lucky ones as my follow up scans were negative.  My last pet scan  came back with an indication that I had something brewing in my trachea.  A bronchoscope was done and it came back positive for squamous cell carcinoma in the trachea, also in a lypmp node and in the bronchial tube.  Has anyone had this and where were you treated.  Presently I have been using Mount Sinai in NYC and have been very happy with my care.  It appears that cancer in the trachea is very rare.  Wondering if anyone else is dealing with this and what you've done.

    I am wishing the best for you. You beat the beast once- you know know you have the fortitude and grit to do it again. I'll be keeping you in my prayers.

    Sorry to hear that you will be fighting this C again, I don’t know much about cancer in the trachea you might want to ask in Lung cancer Forum, they should be able to help better.

    Sorry to hear this.

    I know very little about this. It apears that the SCC in the trache is the most comon of trach cancer but is fast growing. Often if you had H&N they will treat this like H&N was primary and as it spread. To me they should treat lung as lung because they have some things that would help, but they will only use them if it started in the lung of treach. Kinda stupid to me but i'm not a doctor, just the one with the cancer. Go figure. From what I read you are at the best place for this. Mount Sinai has the experance. Best to you.

    I'm sorry you have to have yet another go-around with this disease. If it was diagnosed on a PET scan, it must be in the very earliest stage and will have a much better hope of a cure. I will be praying for that for you.

    My father was diagnosed with Tracheal scamous cell carcinoma in march 2014. He had several but very very little carcinomas in situ that have been be treatd with cryotheraphy, until one of those little carcinomas in situ started to grow and became a tumor -1x2 cms-. Last june 2016 he was trated with brachytheraphy, sort of radiation not external -internal source by bronchoscopy-. We are still not sure if it works or not, tomorrow we have a date with the doctor. 

    Doctor also has spoken about repeating brechytheraphy, it seems that sometimes there is a chance to do that after 6 months; inmunotheraphy and, as last option, stents to hold the tumor that grows to the inside. Im sorry I cant tell you more, but I dont know people with tracheal cancer so neither I have any idea of what to expect. 

    Anyway I hope you are doing well!!!

    Hi back from Oregon, USA and welcome to the H&N forum, sorry about your Dad, but remember people are treated successfully every day.

    The therapy you mentioned is interesting and often works  with far less side effects.  I hope that they get the cancer and your Dad returns to a good (new) normal.
