Is anyone else annoyed by constant Cancer commercials on TV?  It is impossible to forget about cancer for a minute ,  there seems to be constant American Cancer Society and Cancer Treatment Center commercials.  We have AT&T Uverse and The Cancer Treatment Centers have two channels running continuous commercials.  It annoys me everytime I look at the "guide".  I would like to just forget about it for a day or two.

    I can go one better

My husband is a cancer doc IN a commercial for the cancer center where he works and every time the commercial comes on (it was made several months before his diagnosis and treatment) I get this really weird feeling. The tag line for the commercial is "just spend one day with us" because they want you to come and get an opinion because they are a comprehensive cancer center. I think HA! We spent 35 days in the radiology department and another 14 as an inpatient due to neutropenia. That's a lot more than 1 day!

    TV

I am currently addicted to Hallmark Christmas movies, the sappier the better!  And how would I know what the Kardashians are wearing without TV?  In all seriousness Matt, tuning out is probably good idea!  It is just frustrating to see so many cancer commercials.

Barb that is crazy!  I am curious,  do you think it is to your advantage or disadvantage that your husbands expertise is cancer?  Personally I think it must be great to have the search for a medical team you trust be easy but for me "ignorance is bliss" applys to some aspects of my experience.

    A double edged sword

Sonja. I would say too much knowledge can be dangerous, but overall it has been of immense benefit that my husband is in the cancer field. For example he hand picked the team that put in his PEG, and having familiar faces when he had to go in for IV fluids was a comfort.

The real upside is that having lived the other side, he has a better understanding of patient needs and concerns...and he's in a position to help improve patient experience and care at his workplace- so he's pretty motivated to do just that.

I agree! The one that really annoys me starts out in black and white, showing a woman looking out her window while her sink is overflowing or something. I just want to shout, " Stop it, stop it, stop it!" So...how 'bout those Packers?

    They have always been there

I have had the same thoughts but frankly never even noticed them until I was diagnosed. Then it seems like a constant bombardment. Funny how that works. We just have changed our perspectives. The TV ones are obvious but I couldn't believe how much of it is on the radio that before cancer I would just tune out.  As my fingers are on these keys a St. Jude commercial came on. What you need is a new ailment. I have bad arthritis in the knees and now only notice knee pain/treatment commercials. So my advice to you is to pick a new disease, perhaps something exotic like "Mongo Jerry Syndrome"  and you will see it everywhere.

    "Mungo Jerry Syndrome"

Mungo Jerry syndrome is only; In the summertime when the weather is hot,

You can stretch right up and touch the sky,

When the weather's fine.................... However you are so right. When you pick a new car and as soon as you get it, you start to see them every where now, but never noticed them until you get one.

I used to see the adds for Symbacort or the Spriva HandiHalier for COPD. All I could think was, who in their right mind would ever use this with all the possiable side effects they listed. I've been on it now for going on four years.

They have had many break throughs in cancer. Stanford found something that will prevent certin lung and brest cancer from mastizing. Just not H&N yet. They now have adds for FDA aproved immunotherapy for lung cancer that works better than chemo, for extending life. You have to listen real close to catch extending, not stopping or curing.  It just hits home harder if you have or are fighting cancer.
