is it linked?
My RCC was found in the spring 2012 and removed Nov 2012. At the time of diagnosis I was suffering from chronic intractable migraine. Migraines were better for a brief period but has been chronic and daily for over a year. I also have daily flank pain and pain in my spine. Could this be signs of a recurrence? Despite much trial and error and drugs nothing has helped the migraines.
Thoughts appreciated.

Hi,
are you having regularHi,
are you having regular follow-ups for your kidney? If yes, it is very improbable that flank and spine pains are due to RCC.
Don't have personal experience with migraines, but my former colleague had them, nothing helped her as well...

But these are things to be checked out with a Doctor.

I haven't heard or read about
I haven't heard or read about any relations between migraine and rcc mets! Have you had brain c.t to make sure it's migraine? If so, I don't think there is a connection. But flank pain and spinal pain are something we should be careful about. Are you on regular checkups? Ultrasound could show if the recurrence has happened and the tomur is larger than .8 and abdominal and pelvis c.t is the best tool we have to detect early mets. Bone scan is also useful if there is any possible rcc met in the spinal. There are hundred of reasons which could cause that pain so you don't need to panick but as a rcc survivor it's best to let your medical team, know all your symptoms.

Thanks everyone. I had a six month follow-up in the spring 2013 and then annually. Testing includes chest x-ray, ultrasound and blood test for kidney function. I was told he was going to order a full body CT for this year but the requisitions are the same as usual. As it is difficult to get in to see my urologist, I have contacted my gp for an appointment. Better safe then sorry.

Get your scans and mri's. Last year I was in enormous pain with negative tests. Finally after 11 months the tumors in my spinal canal finally showed up on mri. They were radiated and I've been pain free since february. Unfortunately the damage was done and my recovery has been pretty long. But I'm almost there.

Fox, did you have bone scan too when you had pain with negative MRI result? Oh, my goodness, I didn't know pain can come sooner than the technology can detect the reason of the pain!

No. I didn't have a bone scan then. My weakness and pain exactly mimicced(sp?) a blown disc and a brachial plexus injury. But I did have mri's and ct scans, and nerve conduction studies. Monthly. It was classic "Parsonage-Turner syndrome." I had been doing a lot of house painting, blamed the activity, and then the expectations were that it would improve on it's own. The tumors were in the spinal canal. Sneaky buggers. I should have seen my tailor. Steroids, radiation, votrient and oxy's kept me alive. Barely.
So, the message is to see your tailor. I mean pay close attention to your pain and tests Don't stop looking.

So I'm an idiot. Sometimes it is necessary to remind everyone who I am. But pretty funny anyway.
I apologize Bubbs. It's just that I've been here a long time now. I know how new people are so concerned. We have all been there. Sometimes often. An old friend here named Texas Wedge referred to it as "Gallows humor."
I hope you were not insulted. Fox. I should be checking everyones profile, huh? Ice?

IThanks Fox and gang,
I appreciate the humour. My grandmother was my 'baba" and my mom is 'baba' to our kids. My husband started calling me little bubbs when we had kids and now that both baba's have passed he calls me bubbs. So I cherish the name and all it represents.
No worries. The humour and advice make this a great network full of caring people.
