Not Sure What to Think

in Kidney Cancer #1

I have a scan a week before Christmas last year two days before Christmas I found out that my cancer returned and that I was stage IV, my wife and kids and I made a decision to not let that ruin our holiday.  I was in NED the last two scans. Starting two weeks ago I have begun coughing up blood and blood clots sometimes a lot sometimes a little so I have to admit I am a bit nervous I am starting to think that my tumors are back I really want good news for Christmas I don't want to have to tell my family bad news again.  No matter what are beliefs the Christmas season is about hope and joy and I hate to think that for the second Christmas in a row I have to deliver bad news, I don't want my adult children to associate the holiday with my cancer.

    It does look scary, I agree.

    It does look scary, I agree. But it does not necessarily mean mets.  It could be bronchitis, or pneumonia, or blood vessels in throat are irritated due to coughing. How often do you get your scans?

    But in any case you should contact your doctor and inform about this. Perhaps your scan can be moved forward to avoid anxiety at Christmas? 

    Don't think about spoiling festive time, think about your health first. Your children love you, they don't care about spoiled Christmas, they care about you and will be ready to support you no matter what.

    please let us know how it will be going, ok?

    mrou50 I can understand why

    mrou50 I can understand why you are so concerned. But you don't know for sure what it is until your doctor runs tests, right?

    Has your doctor been notified yet?

    In the meantime, I, along with others here, will support you and walk along side you if you want us to.

    I'll be thinking of you and sending you the healing energy you know to face this dilemma.

    Coughing up blood is not

    Coughing up blood is not necessarily cancer related. I would go to the gp asap and have it checked out. What meds are you, by the way? Can it be a side affect? In any case, please have it looked out. We can't always associate problems with cancer, most times it is not related.    Also, people who contract tb (not that it is your situation) cough up blood.  So, just get checked asap.  Hope all goes well, please keep us updated!

    Do not wait

    Please see your primary Doctor sooner than later. it is best to find out what is going on so you can get this behind you. Your adult children want to see you feeling well. They will understand.

    Yes, please reschedule your scan for as soon as possible. Waiting is horrible and the stress isn't doing you any favors. And I agree with Allochka; your adult children are most likely a lot more concerned for you and your health than Christmas. The best gift you can give them is to take care of yourself and your health by seeing a physician and rescheduling your scan.

    I am going to call my doctor on Monday my wife has been asking me to do this for some time now but I put it off.  Thanks to everyone for the encouraging words.

    Well, Mark, glad you are

    Well, Mark, glad you are listening (to your wife and us) and going to get this checked out.

    I would call your primary TODAY who I bet will send you in to either the ER or at least Urgent care BECAUSE your primary needs tests done. If you get an on-call MD, they will also direct you to get these tests done. LIke others said, it may not be cancer, but internal bleeding/clots is something that cannot wait. PLEASE?? (I hear your wife's pleas)

    AND for those of us who have adult children, they are NOT children any longer.

    They want to be treated as adults and know what is going on with us. (well most do)

    I know they would probably feel BETTER is you involved him by telling them.

    Let them assist you now!

    I think you should go sooner

    If it's still continuing and getting worse, please consider the ER. As "the wife" that's my two cents worth.
