Did she have Taxol. It causesMrsBee said:My Mom says she had bone pain
My Mom says she had bone pain since shortly after going to bed last night.
She describes it as not real bad pain but traveling from place to place (including her ears)
and making her uncomfortable.
I told her to take Tylenol but she's afraid it will intefere with the Chemo drugs.
She's using a heating pad and I massaged her feet both of which seemed to help.
Did she have Taxol. It causes bone pain that can be quite severe for a few days. I have a prescription for hydrocodone that I take for it. I have have heard of others that take Aleve. I am sure that Tylonal would be fine. It is the only over the counter pain pill that my Dr. Recomended because it is not a blood thinner. Hugs nod prayers for both of you. Lou Ann

Yes, she had the Taxol, and something like "Carbo-"?
Thanks for the prayers.

MrsBee's Son - All of the above medicines should be fine for your Mom. For me, Tylenol doesn't work. I have the best results with Advil. But, caution.... it could make her stomach upset.
The bone pain does jump around. And, she may get stabbing pains in the oddest places too. Please give her doctor a call if she or you are uncomfortable adding medication to her arsenal. You will both get over that soon! It is hard in the beginning to figure out what hurts to determine what to take.
Foot massage! AWESOME!
Thanks for taking such good care of her.
Love and Hugs,
Cindi

Thanks for the prayers.
Carboplatin - it is the common, second chemo drug used.
As already said, Tylenol is fine to take. Like your mom, I experienced the pain and called to ask what I could take. It won't interfere with chemo.
Your mother is lucky to have such a good son.

For me the bone pain usuallyMrsBee said:I'd like to get some rough
I'd like to get some rough idea about how long the bone from the post chemo shot can last.
For me the bone pain usually lasts for several days, It usually gets worse in the evenings and nights and not so bad during the day, I first thought it came fome ther Nuelasta shot, but I have found that mine comes from the Taxol. Lou Ann

Its been 1 ½ years since I completed chemo but I do remember the deep bone aches and pain so well! I never had a Neulasta shot so I am sure the reaction was from the Taxol. The pain would begin on the third day after treatment. At first it would last about 5 days but with each treatment the pain lasted longer, almost 2 weeks. Like Lou Ann, the pain was worse at night and I often needed to take an oxycodone pill to be able to sleep. I also have restless leg syndrome which was aggravated by the chemo and made for some uncomfortable nights. The good news is that all the pain goes away once you complete chemo. Chemo was the hardest part of my treatment but it was doable and even on the worst weeks there were many good days. Sandy

The worst of my bone pain has lasted about 3 days with most of it resolving in about 6 days. It has been 9 days since my last treatment and I still have slight pain off and on. Like the other ladies said, I believe the Taxol causes my bone pain. And, the pain starts on day 3 for me too. However, I also believe that the Nuelasta made it worse. And, I had a lot of muscle pain with the Nuelasta. My pain tends to be constant on the bad days. Day and Night. For me, this is the hardest part of getting through the chemo impacts. But, we can get through it. And come out of it with a chance to live a full life! I hope your Mom feels better soon. Love and Hugs, Cindi

after her shower today my Mom could not get from her bathroom door to her bed, a distance of about four feet!
I helped her, but it kind of scared me. Very sudden, and very little energy. It took her three or four hrs to get her strength back.

On her 11 day after Chemo-
after 3 days of moderate bone pain
and 3-4 of severe fatigue-
Mom's been feeling pretty normal again.
The first difference I noticed was that
her voice sounded normal again-
it had gotten so weak and far away sounding lately.
Then she started getting out of bed more and not spending the whole day in PJ's.
The change was fast and dramatic!
Her appetite's back, too.

And it's a very good sign that her appetite is back. I've found I always feel better when I feel like eating normally.
Hugs to both of you.

For two days in a row the blood testing office in our local shopping cntr was closed!
My mom was supposed to get the test before her Monday Chemo day.
It's closed tomorrow too, and so is the Doctor's office until Monday!
She's pretty upset about it all, and wonders if she should just go to the Chemo appt, anyway!
Has anyone else been in a similar situation oe have any ideas?

Is she getting her chemo at a hospital or cancer center? I now get my blood test done early the morning of my chemo appoint at the hospital where I get my chemo. Could your doctor put in an order for her there? She might possibly even be able to get into a lab there over the weekend.

My blood work is always done at the cancer center on the morning of chemo. It usually takes about 30-45 minutes for them to get the results back. Your mom could probably get labs done at the ER too. It seems like every time I walk in there they want my blood. I have found that our ER is not very good at using a port though. Hugs and prayers to both of you, Lou Ann

MrsBee (son) I don't thinkMrsBee said:Thank you both!
I wasThank you both!
I was wondering if they couldn't do it at her hospitol.
I'm sure it's happened to others before and they must have a way of dealing with it.
We'll find out by monday at least.
MrsBee (son) I don't think they would give her chemo without the test and they can do that at the hospital. As Lou Ann said, she had always gotten hers the day of and I have showed up not knowing if it would be high enough so it was tested then.
You are correct, she is not the first one this has happened to. Try not to worry about it and show up tomorrow.
Good luck
