Stoma
Has anyone had a stoma fitted? I have a operation booked for November 25th. This is to hopefully remove tumour, but there is some bowel invasion and a stoma is possible. I just wondered how it is. Feeling pensive

I had a stoma years ago. I
I had a stoma years ago. I had ulcerative colitis, and had my colon and rectum removed. I had an external stoma for about 3 months before they made an internal rectal pouch from a piece of my small intestine. I did all right with the external stoma. Once you are fitted with the right materials and are taught how to take care of it, things went okay. I had my husband also learn, because after my colectomy, I needed help. I had an ileostomy, do you know if that is what you will have, or would it be a colostomy? They are cared for a little differently. I was diagnosed almost 3 years ago with 1C ovarian cancer, and during my hysterectomy, my gyn/onc surgeon had a colorectal surgeon come in to make sure there were no problems, which there weren't. Thank you, Vickie. I have a friend who was telling me about a co-workers sister who had to have something like this with her ovarian cancer treatment. He asked me about it and I had no idea so this is helpful in understanding. Thank you.
