Im back
Hi everyone, I am back once again to check on everyone and see how you are all doing. Have missed being on here. Finally got hubby straightened out, I hope. THe carotid artery surgery has done well. The other side is still 60 percent blocked, but they are watching and scan again in 2 months. Now, its me again. I started losing weight and no appetite, have lost 34 pounds. done ct scans of adb, chest pelvic, neck and found 1 tumor in thyroid, Had a ultrasound on neck and found 2 tumors. One is 1.8 cm and looks cystic the other lays right beside it, is solid mass tumor and is 1.4cm. Have had throat doc go down in my throat twice now and that does not feel very good at all. He has decided to wait 5 months and scan again to see how much they have grown. So genetic testing is being true and its getting scary. My family doc does not want the wait and see due to my high risk of cancer, so dont know what to do at this point. I ask throat doc if he had seen RCC in thyroid,, he said he didnt think so. If so not very often. Imay go for a sceond opinion. Just keep me in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks. Praying for you all.

Hello,
I'm very sorry to hearHello,
I'm very sorry to hear about it. Unknown is the worst. Hope that these tumors are benign. If it is thyroid cancer - it is very-very treatable too.
Getting a second (or even the third) opinion is the best thing, please let us know how it goes. Better to find out sooner and treat it.
Will keep fingers crossed for you, and glad your husband is doing good! Worrying about loved once often is worse than worrying about ourselves...

Hi Brea,I have been thinking
Hi Brea,
I have been thinking about you and glad you posted. It sounds very promising about your husband - what a relief. But there is no breathing space for you, is there, dear girl? Does your growth bother you? Do you have thyroid problems in your family? Have you had a biopsy done of the tumor? If not, I suggest you push for one, rather than wait, given your history. And a second opinion wouldn't hurt either.
Your timing is unbelievable because I have been having some tests done as well. I have a goiter (such a lovely term, isn't it?) and the nodes grew so much they did a biopsy about 4 or 5 years ago. Well I had another ultrasound last week and the doctor called to say they are sending me for a biopsy because 3 nodes have grown so much. Not sure when that will take place yet (I am going to an endocrinologist for this....maybe that is the kind of doctor you should be seeing??). My thyroid is working normally, I believe - haven't heard about those blood tests yet- no weight loss or gain. I have also since noticed a hard lump under my jaw on the same side as my goiter....hoping that is just a swollen gland. And next week (Nov. 12) is my 6 month CT scan....hoping Uncle NED comes to visit!
Take care, Brea!!
Hugs

This uncle cares not only for kidneys, but also for thyroids. So I'm sure he'll drop by and both organs will be in his agenda :-)

My "regular" CT caught the thyroid gland in it's view. So they put me/and the thyroid thru a series of exams over the following 3 months. Because the CT dye uses a radioactive isotope, I had to wait 4-6 weeks for it to clear from my body. Then, they did a Thyroid radioactive iodine uptake exam. Yep-there were enlarged nodes. Then an ultrasound-press,press, choke, choke. And finally a biopsy of the largest 2 nodes. But they were negative for any mets from thyroid cancer (as it usually doesn't go to the thyroid) and for any new cancer-thyroid.
If you really want answers, check with your onc. to find out why other tests have not been performed to rule out mets or a new cancer. It sure was a load off my mind when the biopsy came back negative.
It can get better.
Good luck and hugs

Hope all turns out well for you. We both come up with masses in neck LOL imagine that. I never did like to do anything alone lol j/k yes my voice is getting hoarse, and my neck is swollen. Im so confused. Onc said she could feel the lymph nodes swollen on both sides of neck and throat doc said the nodes was not swollen. Since i had very rare tumors in esophagus way back when Onc is wanting all that checked again. Last year EGD I had cell changes on the biopsies. So I see GI doc next week on 11th and I think he will do colonoscopy and egd. Im on blood thinner so will have to come off that on go on lovenox inj until all this is done. The throat doc never mentioned biopsy of tumors, he just said lets wait and see what happens in 5 months, because i would hate to put you through some uncomfortable testing if you dont need it. I agree with that but, i am high risk cancer and told him this. So hubby is on me to go see family doc and have her send me to someone for 2nd opinion. But praying for you that your test come out ok.

Souunds a lot like me...... I ihave seen Onc 2 times and she continues to send me back to ENT. I dont think that she is even thinking either lol. Well I had ct of chest abd, and pelvis and neck .. thank God nothing showed in the other areas. Ct only picked up on one of the masses the solid mass it didnt. So just makes you think how much we rely on ct scan but also how much it can miss too. Oh well thanks for the hugs, and I will pursue something on this issue. Would just like some peace and quiet from all this for a little while. Thanks

Thanks Jan for the hugs, I surely need them. I am hoping the docs will get their mind made up what to do with me. tired of the ruin around. I had a lesion that show on ct in cervical 3 spine and it has not been addressed either. I am thinking about going to the University of KY medical oncology and let them take over my care. I see them already in the breast center, I have a mass in breast that has only grown a little, my tissue is so dense, i ihave tumore markers in it. But i think I ihave made my mind up to see my primary care doc and just get her to refer me there. I still have a smile on my face, a hug ready for anyone who needs it, and love in my heart for all.

My dear Brea, not sure how close you are to any MAYO center, but it may be worth it to get THEIR opinion on what to do. They work as a TEAM, consulting and exploring options beyond the regular path most of us go through.
Just sayin...
You are being thought of so fondly and with such care.. please know that we'll walk this journey along side you, k?
