Scope today
Today we had the follow-up nasopharyngeal scope following treatment. About three weeks ago we had gotten the all clear NED from the PET scan. Today's visual scope confirmed that the tumor is gone. What a blessing! Followup CT/MRI in 3 months and then another scope. Looks like that will be our routine for the next year.
Scope shows before and after. Before on the left and after on the right. The black dots are part of the computer screen. Basically the tumor is that big bulging area. Now that it's gone and the airway is more open no wonder his snoring is better!

So that's what it looks like up there?!
I've never seen a picture, or had a clue what the nasalpharnyx even looked like....hell, I had to look it up to see where it was even.
Whoo Hoo on it being gone!! That's such a relief, I know.

In this case Snoring is good.
Gone is wonderful news.
One good thing that came from my surgery is I can't snore anymore and I will most likely never get the common cold. Some times you have to look at the bright side of things. Very glad he is doing so much better, and he will continue to do so.

Great!
Barbaraek, thanks for sharing again! This is great. Mine looks exactly like the left (before treatment), although, i'm curious if my ENT actually stored any of those pictures because I don't have them.. Hrmm...
Can I ask, when did you did your first scoping? Was it 1 month after treatment? My ENT asked me to see him 1 month after radiation, not sure what the visit is about but I'm hoping he'll also run a scope.

the video pictures were stored on the computer and they pulled them up for comparison purposes. I just snapped a picture of the computer screen. In terms of timelines...the scope was done almost exactly 3 months after the last day of radiation, and just shy of 3 weeks after the post treatment PET scan. We finished radiation 7/17 and tried adjuvant chemo 8/27. The adjuvant regimen of Cisplatin and 5FU really set him back...in the hospital for a week with neutropenia (even with a Neulasta shot), radiation recall, and horrendous mucositis. Needless to say we didn't continue with the adjuvant chemo. I thought the PET would be inconclusive because of edema and the necrotic tissue and was ecstatic when they gave him the all clear. It was fantastic to visually confirm it with the scope. Now we are the MRI/CT every 3 month plan.

Wonderful news, so happy to
Wonderful news, so happy to hear!! We saw our ENT about 2 wks ago and he scoped him and said things look good and that the CAT scan at the end of September looks very promising and the oncologist said that even though it was early it looked very good and we couldn't have asked for better results and that it appeared he responded very well to treatment. Our first PET scan is scheduled for early December which will hopefully substantiate what they've said but it was still WONDERFUL to hear positive things for once. I don't know that I'll ever feel totally at peace because I'm sure every sniffle or new ache or pain will stir up feelings of panic that it's back but for now I'm counting on the fact that my husband will be around for many, many years yet and I'm not accepting anything less!! So truly happy for you and your husband!!
