WBC: How low is too low?

I know what the normal range is, but how low does your WBC need to be before they defer your treatment? I'm supposed to get my last chemo this coming Wednesday, but my WBC has dropped each time. Last time it was barely within the normal range. I do get neulasta every time. I'm worried this time it will be too low. I want to be done!

    Done?

It is doubtful that any of us who have had this will ever be really 'done'.....but Survival is continuing to live....and I've done that now for almost 14 years from diagnosis.   However, even though I have been cancer free all this time....they found a spot on my Diagnostic Mammogram a few weeks ago.  They said it is a 'fat' lymph node that they do not like the looks of and wanted me to get a Biopsy right away.

I decided to wait and think about it.....because I am now 79 and 1/2 years old and do not intend to go thru the chemo or surgery again.  We each must take this day by day...and none of us gets out of this World alive...but we do go to a better place which gives me a great deal of Peace when I think about that.   As for your White Blood Cells getting too low?  We have all probably had that happen and if that is the case they will simply put it off until they can safely give you the chemo.  It is really best not to anticipate all of these things and try to live in the NOW ...each and every day.  I hope you will be able to find Peace and let go of your Anxiety.  Sending hugs and prayers for Strength & Courage.    Glo

Thanks, Glo. I just want chemo to be done so I can move on to the next step. I'm hoping it won't be delayed.

    I don't remember about WBC

I don't remember about WBC levels because the Neulasta shot kept mine high enough. I hope your doctor thinks you can proceed with your next treatment. I was eating a diet to help WBC (eggs, oranges, spinach, beans, cashews, etc) but I wonder how much that really helped in the end. I just figured it couldn't hurt since those foods are good for everyone. Ask you doctor if there is anything you can do. I know how anxious you are to be done because my radiation treatments got delayed twice and it is so frustrating when you want to stay on schedule! But no matter what happens, you certainly will finish eventually so just try to go with the flow and do what you must do. Chemo seems to take forever, but when you are done, you will be SO happy and proud of yourself....keep us updated... Hugs, Anna

    One time I got

It when my white cell count was .9, however, I knew I had to be back the next day for a neulesta shot.  I think your overall medical condition facts in.  I WAS healthy except for the cancer.  I am sure if I had high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. all of that would have played into it.

    Hope it goes well.

As Carol mentioned -- There is Neulasta shots ...

I had a shot 24 hours after each of my chemo treatments.    Sore and acky afterwards for 3 days or so,  so I took a claratin or benedryl .. Please ask your doctor what he/she recommends for that 'sore and acky' feeling.

    Let us know ...

    I worried for nothing!  WBC

I worried for nothing!  WBC actually went up and is in normal range. And I don't have to get neulasta tomorrow, so recovery shouldn't be as bad this time. Getting infusion as I type!
