Hi I was reading old posts.  I saw yours Phrannie about the tube.  Last night my stomach was just spasming intermittantly but today its better.  Kills my abdominals though when I move.  Dang, I had stopped taking narcotics on the 21st from my surgery.  i started back!!  WOW.  But its so helpful to read the old posts Thank You.  Karen

I feel stupid now, this lasted three days.  Each was better than the last.

Yeah....it came as quite a surprise to me...

that the feeding tube hurt like a bas**rd.  Some people don't get any pain from it, and for me...I likened it to labor.....the cresending spasms, hitting a peak, then fading.....even the surgeon who put in my port was worried.  She didn't think it should hurt like that either....ah, but within 3 days....the pain was gone.

When you get comfortable with it....I will tell you about a great little article of clothing that I used to keep my tube close to my body so I didn't have to tape, hang in my bra, tuck in my pants...and all the other delightful ways I tried to keep the damn thing managable.

The Port becomes part of your body....and I wore it for nearly 2 years....it didn't bother me unless I bumped it on something.

I am lucky then the bad

I am lucky then the bad spasms were only for the first night.  Now its just terrible soreness with the abdominals.  THat I can deal with though.  I was just super suprised how much it hurt!!!  BTW steroids did the trick and my throat is MUCH better...until radiation next week I guess.   Karen

    The pain will go

It was really pain for me also while I have peg-tube. Even the pain medicine did not help. But it only lasted for 3 days then went away. Hope yours are similar. I found it became more serious while hungry, so I prepared some crackers even for the night while pain happened.

    I'm glad those spasms subsided

Hopefully the worst is over, and you can put that PEG tube to good use Karen and stay nourished and hydrated. Don't forget to practice swallowing though!
