No appetite and feeling cold 3 years post treatment
I'm three years post treatment from squamo cell cancer of the nasopharynx. My thyroid is being treated. I have never regained an appetite and of course I have very little saliva. As a result, I mostly get my nutrition from liquids. Also, I'm always cold. Freezing! Has anyone else experienced a loss of appetite and feeling cold all the time?
Thanks

Newly finished
Cindy,
As frustrating as it might be to have no appetite and feel cold...I am glad to see you are 3 years beyond treatment. My husband just finished tx. for NPC and all survival stories are music to my ears.
The doctor told my husband that he would have to have his thyroid monitored frequently. That probably has a lot to do with loss of our appetite. That and I'm sure eating seems like a chore with very little saliva. Did you try any acupuncture or over the counter aids to help with saliva?
As far as feeling cold...my husband is cold quite a bit of the time. I think that has to do with the fact that he has very little meat on his bones...perhaps a similar thing is happening in your case? I think thyroid also helps regulate body temperature. Unfortunately I don't have very many helpful suggestions. I can say living in snowy Buffalo I get a lot of use out of the Hanes fleece cuddle duds....they can help keep you toasty.

Thyroid
I just saw my endocrinologist who told me that even though the thyroid is being treated and levels fall within the normal range, some people still have symptoms, especially being cold. This summer, I had to take a jacket with me everywhere. It was warm enough outside, but freezing inside. Here in Wisconsin, some people crank up the air conditioning when it hits 65!

Yes....at least to the cold.....
I'm always cold, except in July and August ....and during treatment I was cold even then. I just bundle up, since...like you....I'm already on thyroid meds, and they test my thyroid at least twice a year....I just figure less meat on my bones has a great deal to do with it.
I get hungry, but it takes very little to fill me up....so I eat several times a day. I got down to 79 pounds or so during treatment, and have only gained back 11 or 12 since that ended (three years ago). I eat soup most of the times, simply because it goes down the easiest....I don't do Boost or Ensure any more (no thanks). Pea soup, cauliflower and cheese soup, hearty veggie soup, bean soup, pea soup.....all are good.

One outa Two ain't bad
While my appetite and eating are about 90% after 2 1/2 years, I have issues with feeling cold. I wore long sleeve shirts almost all summer at the office and now that it's cooling off, I'm dressed warm all the time. Mostly it's my hands and feet that suffer.

Might help
My wife was always cold. She got so bad she had to wear socks to bed becaues of it and I thuched her foot I would jump it was like a can of soda. Braggs Raw Apple cider vinegar did the trick. You take a spoon full everyday and it helps your circulation and will flush out your kidneys. Only side effect is it will lower your blood pressure but salt will bring in back up if nedded. It must be Raw unpasturized apple cider. Oh you smell like a salid for a while but it really does work. I used in the winter to keep my feet from getting cold wher I worke in a cold box 8 to 12 houre a day. Worth a try as It can't hurt you.

I also had Thyroid cancer
I also had Thyroid cancer with a total thyroidectomy in 2003. Before that I was Hypo. I've never been cold. When I was undertreated I had cold feet but thats it. Then I started having hot flashes of menopause. Maybe after treatment I'll be cold. I always envied those nurses who could wear those cute thermals under their scrubs while I had the portable fan!!
