her2 positive esophageal cancer : question on use of herceptin only in treatment
Hello,
I 'd like to hear from people who have her2 positive EC and are now getting herceptin only as treatment. In particular I'd like to know at what point it was decided to continue with herceptin only . was it after a certain number of cycles of chemo and herceptin? was it when the patient appeared to be with NED? the reason i'm asking this is that here in FRance our oncologist says there is no data on using herceptin only for EC ( the only data is on breast cancer ).
Thanks for your answers.
all the best,
danièle

Just stumbled across your post
Hi Daniele,
I'm so sorry, but have only just seen your post.
In France perhaps they are not aware of the probable good effects of Herceptin for EC.
In the USA and in the UK, it is now widely used as a treatment for EC. If you have not already had a second opinion, may I suggest that you get one as it does not seem that your oncologist is very up to date.
My husband was not positive for Herceptin, but I have spoken to many people here who have benefitted from this treatment, and I believe that the side effects are much reduced when Herceptin is chosen over other chemo regimes.
I do know a man in the UK who is stage 4 and unable to have an operation. He has been treated with Herceptin alone for four years and he still plays racket ball with my sister. He is in his seventies and copes really well with his illness on this treatment alone.
I hope you get the help that you need.
Prayers and hugs,
Marci

My husband was diagnosed in January 2015, Stage 4, inoperable, age 40. He has been having Herceptin & Cisplatin combo every 3 weeks, with chemo tablets each day between Herceptin/Cisplatin. He is about to switch to weekly Taxol but continute to have Herceptin every 3 weeks.
Marci - it was so lovely reading your post about your sisters friend. It gives me hope for my husband.

I too am on a similar regiment and with same diagnosis. Why is it inoperable?
