Genome Testing

Abbycat2 brought up something in another thread I am curious about.  How many of you have had genome testing?  I know AWK has, but the more I research and read, the more I think that perhaps this is something that should be standard for these more aggressive cancers.  Why have women going through months of treatment with chemo that isn't effective against their particiular cancers?  It seems that even treatment is somewhat of a "crap shoot."  I am constantly amazed in the vast differences in responses to identical treatments.

    My surgeon/ gyn-onc sent a

    My surgeon/ gyn-onc sent a piece of my tumor that he removed during surgery, but he was not sure if he had been able to send a biig enough piece for it to work.  We haven't heard anything back yet and he reallyn wanted me to get back on chemo because of the tumor that is wrapped around some blood vessels. he suggested going back to the Taxol/Carbo because it worked until i had a reaction to the Carbo.  We are trying to desensitixing me to the Carbo.  Takes about 8 hours each time.. if something positive comes back from the testing we can always switch.  Lou Ann

    Testing

    I had the genome testing done.  For many years I have done family genealogy as a hobby.  I had just done a DNA test for that when the subject came up at the dr.s office.  I found on my mothers side of the family I have three lines of Ashkanizi Jew.  This group has more of the UPSC grade c of anyother people that have been tested.  I had the testing done, the BRACA 1 & 2, and Lynch Syndrom all came back negitive.  I was, in truth, the one in one million who got UPSC for no known cause.  The testing also showed that the Taxol/Carboplatin was the right combo for my cancer.  I really think EVERYONE should have the test.  Might improve survival and stop some of this "Trial and error" on these recuring cancers.  Just my opinon!

    Not just same treatments when they all say every cancer is different.

    Genome testing

    I am a Ashkanizi Jew. My grandparents came from Russia and Poland. I had lobular breast cancer in 2012 and so far cancer free from that but now have MMMT uterine cancer. My last chemo was Oct. 2014 so I guess I am ned for 1 year. I am not sure how that works. I also have Celiac and RA and other things. I am allergic to a lot of food and drugs. I have a long list of things that I can,t take. I had to have a slow drip for taxol after I had a reaction.  I was neg. for the Braca gene and also neg for Lynch. My mom died from breast cancer. There was a lot of cancer on her side of the family and heart on my dads side. My fathers mother and father were first cousins.  I heard that a lot of that was common back in their days. Are there other gene tests that I should be having?  I have 1 son and 2 grandchildren.  Should I get a DNA test. I go to the Dr. on Nov.2nd 2015. I am so affraid of getting a  reccurance.

    So sorry to hear of all you have gone through!  My mother had breast cancer and two of Her mothers sisters had breast cancer plus several other kinds of other cancers.  If it were me, and,yes, I am opinionated!, I would ask the doctor to refer me to a genitices(sp)doctor.  I think there are a lot more mutations than they regularly test for.  I do believe it really comes down to our genes. They will probably try to tell you it doesn't matter where it came from, just try and treat it now.  Well, as soon as I mentioned "Ashkanatiz Jew" they were all over me like a chicken on a June Bug!  With your family history and close marriage, I would DEMAND it!  Your whole family could benifit from it.  I have a daughter and five sones and nine grands, three of them girls.  I had to know for them, not just me!  Best, Debra(jo)
